"SWAN LAKE ON WATER ~Finally got real water 'Swan Lake'" will open at Tokyo International Forum Hall A from Thursday, August 10th.
Ukrainian Grand Ballet visits Japan for the first time. The Kharkov Opera and Ballet, which was based in Ukraine and was affiliated with the Opera House, was planning a performance tour of the new work "SWAN LAKE ON WATER" in various parts of the world. However, due to the pandemic and war, the dancers of the ballet company escaped from the country and scattered. Forbidden lovers on stage, but in real life they are married couples, Kharkov Opera and Ballet solo dancers Irina Handazhevska and Anatoly Handazhevsky. Established the “Ukrainian Grand Ballet” by gathering talented young dancers. With the mission of "bringing goodness and beauty to the world, inspiring society, and raising it to a new spiritual level," he set out with "SWAN LAKE ON WATER."
"Swan Lake" is one of Tchaikovsky's three major ballets, along with "Sleeping Beauty" and "The Nutcracker". The story is set in Germany, and Prince Siegfried is ordered by his mother to choose a bride at a ball. be attracted to each other At the ball held the next day, the devil Rothbart disguised as a guest appears with Odile, a daughter who looks like Odette. The two roles of Odette the Swan and Odile the Black Swan by a single prima ballerina, and the flawless group dance are the major attractions of this work.
“SWAN LAKE ON WATER”, which will be performed this time, is a new creative aesthetic that has been brought to fruition by incorporating actual “water” into the production of “Swan Lake” and fusing video and lighting. A spectacular performance of water that has been said to be impossible and a collaboration of ballet dancers. However, after two years of research and negotiations with the ballet company, it became a reality on stage.
The Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra is in charge of the performance, and the resident conductor and conductor of the orchestra has been active overseas, such as holding the position of the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra's regular conductor, and performing as a guest at the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra's regular concert. Kazumasa Watanabe is in command.
The first day of the performance in Japan is August 10th (Thursday) at the Tokyo International Forum Hall A. On the 9th, a general rehearsal was held at the same venue prior to the first day performance. In the first act, a banquet was held in the front garden of the royal palace to celebrate Siegfried's coming of age. On the surface, he seemed to be enjoying himself, but when he thought about the "choosing a bride" that he was ordered to do, he became depressed. A gorgeous palace is drawn by CG projection, and the fountain using actual water is full of highlights from the beginning. In the second act, in which Siegfried chases after a swan and reaches the lake, dancers perform a group dance on a stage filled with water. The way they dance beautifully without any disturbance while making a popping sound is reminiscent of a swan flapping its wings on a lake. The third act is a ball at the royal palace. Many bride candidates visit and the gorgeous atmosphere spreads, but when they realize that they have been tricked by Rothbart and Odile, the hall of the royal palace changes to black and white, turning into a dark world. And in the fourth act, Siegfried challenges Rothbart to battle. Water was once again poured onto the stage, and the dancers performed a powerful and beautiful dance while splashing water. During the climactic 10 minutes, 12 tons of water fall like rain, creating a powerful scene. It is a masterpiece stage that can be expressed precisely because it is "SWAN LAKE ON WATER" using "water".
A fantastical world view, an immersive story called a masterpiece, a production using water and vivid LED lights, and a CG projection that makes the royal palace and lake feel real. These elements are fused together perfectly, creating a stage where even discerning audiences who are familiar with the powerful visual beauty of IMAX get caught up in a whirlpool of emotions.
"SWAN LAKE ON WATER ~Finally Got Real Water 'Swan Lake'" will run for 6 performances from August 10th (Thursday) to 13th (Sunday). We would like you to experience this precious performance that has created a fantasy world that has never been seen before, and brought to fruition the new aesthetics of ballet called water spectacle.
