·overview

Magma is an artist unit formed by Jun Sugiyama and Kenichi Miyazawa, both of whom graduated from the Department of Spatial Design at Musashino Art University, while they were still students. In addition to producing their own artworks, they also undertake a wide range of client work, including furniture, products, and spatial design and production. They create three-dimensional works by combining a variety of materials, including waste materials, resin, and electric appliances. While the personalities and characteristics of the two artists are utilized in the production process and in the works, they also blend together to create a unique world of work.
This exhibition will feature approximately 20 new sculptures themed around "fairy tales." They express the diverse images of "fairy tales" that people have.

・Artist statement

The morals, aesthetic sense, and social common sense contained in fairy tales that are easily accessible today are a reflection of the values of modern society. Stories have been passed down through the generations, repeatedly revised and altered to make them consistent with the times. However, like a game of telephone, tradition sometimes produces answers full of noise, with details disappearing, parts being emphasized, and excessive simplification.
This exhibition is a story that weaves together, using objects, the images that we all have in the back of our minds.

FOAM CONTEMPORARY

Combining the concept of “LIQUID,” which evokes flexible project content, with the concept of “SOLID,” which is a fully equipped space as a traditional white cube, the intermediate form known as “FOAM” is an expressive space that reflects the Japanese art scene from multiple angles.
The first "O" in the logo is intentionally misshapen to evoke the image of a bubble. It represents the ever-changing contemporary art scene itself, while also expressing the image of an artist's free, flexible and infinite expression.
As an expressive space that explores and fosters the value and joy of art that transcends the life cycle of art, while staying in tune with the actuality of the times, we will introduce a variety of noteworthy artists regardless of their career history or age.
