Wako Ginza will be holding an exhibition by lacquer artist Jihei Murase titled "Jihei Murase: Lacquer Work – Forms Guided by Wood" at the Seiko House Hall from Thursday, November 6th to Sunday, November 16th.

Born into a family of woodworkers dating back to the Edo period, Murase succeeded to the name "Murase Jihei III" in 2001. He has received high praise both at home and abroad for his unique style that combines the natural beauty of wood with the depth of lacquer.
This exhibition will feature over 70 pieces that will add color to any space, including vases with a variety of expressions created through a dialogue with wood, incense burner stands that highlight the beauty of the wood grain, tableware that will enrich your daily life, and a standing table that will bring the world of tea closer to you.
Each piece is a masterpiece that displays his unique sensitivity and technique, which allows him to discern the individuality of wood and bring out the expression of the lacquer. Not only are they traditional tea ceremony utensils, but their aesthetic beauty harmonizes with modern spaces, and they truly embody the concept of "beauty of utility."
His works are housed in renowned art museums around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the British Museum, and the National Crafts Gallery, and he is attracting international attention as a representative of Japanese lacquer art.
Please come to the venue to see the fascinating shapes created as if guided by the wood and the harmony of various lacquer art techniques.
