Ginza Sony Park has collaborated with contemporary artist SHUN SUDO, with whom it has a close relationship, to present "ART IN THE PARK: SHUN SUDO "HANA-MI"," an exhibition themed on the Japanese cultural tradition of cherry blossom viewing, from March 7th (Sat) to 29th (Sun), 2026.
In this program, together with SHUN SUDO, who shares the Ginza Sony Park concept of "connecting people with the city, and people with each other, through activities and space," we will create a cherry blossom viewing space filled with a wide variety of floral illustrations, allowing you to feel the arrival of spring in the streets of Ginza, which attracts people from all over the world. In addition, original goods exclusive to the venue will be on sale, and a collaborative menu will be offered at the casual dining restaurant "1/2 (Nibun no Ichi)." You can enjoy a cherry blossom viewing experience unique to Ginza Sony Park, where three experiences are combined.

The Sony Building, the predecessor of Ginza Sony Park, had a 33 sq. m public space called "Ginza Garden" (Sony Square), where seasonal events such as a "Summer Aquarium" and "New Year's Mochi Pounding" were held to allow passersby to enjoy the streets of Ginza. Inheriting this philosophy, Ginza Sony Park will be holding a "hanami"-themed program ahead of this spring's cherry blossom season, to help people feel the arrival of spring in Ginza.

SHUN SUDO, our collaborator this time, began his work in 2020 by drawing a wall art with the motif of "flowers and music" directly onto the wall of the underground space of Ginza Sony Park Phase 1, where the skeleton of the Sony Building remains. He has since created "wall art" using the temporary enclosure during Ginza Sony Park's reconstruction work as a canvas, as well as participating in "ART IN THE PARK (Under Construction)," which was held prior to the park's grand opening.

The program, "ART IN THE PARK: SHUN SUDO "HANA-MI"," boldly utilizes the space of Ginza Sony Park to exhibit over 35 new works, the largest scale yet to be exhibited by the artist, including paintings of cherry blossoms, a symbol of hanami, as well as SHUN SUDO's iconic BUTTON FLOWERS and various floral landscapes he has seen on his travels around the world. SHUN SUDO, who continues to evolve from his previous style, has created a stunning space that looks as if flowers are in full bloom, with the desire to "touch the hearts of the many people who visit Ginza and connect them to a little bit of energy in their daily lives."

Furthermore, on the second basement floor, in addition to the sale of new silkscreen artworks, original goods exclusive to the venue will also be available, including apparel goods such as T-shirts and tote bags designed with floral art, and early release of new BE@RBRICKs. Additionally, the Western-style casual dining restaurant "1/2 (Nibun no Ichi)" on the third basement floor will be offering a special flower-themed collaboration menu for a limited time to coincide with this program. Enjoy an art-filled cherry blossom viewing experience at Ginza Sony Park, a park in the city.

Works exhibited in this program, "ART IN THE PARK: SHUN SUDO "HANA-MI"," are available for purchase.
We will be exhibiting our latest works, so please come and see them at the Ginza Sony Park venue.

What I painted is a landscape with various flowers.
Sceneries I have seen all over the world and the flowers that bloom among them.
A moment that never comes back again.
I will transform a moment engraved in my mind into an eternal scene through my paintings.

Even before the opening in 2025, we have been working on various initiatives with Ginza Sony Park.
What I felt each time was a sense of empathy for this place.
Connecting people to the city, and people to each other, through activities and space.
That's one of the things I aim for in my art.

This art exhibition, held in collaboration with Ginza Sony Park,
In that sense, I feel it will be a major challenge.

A space filled with flower paintings will be created in a park in Ginza, which attracts people from all over the world.
I wanted to express the wonderful Japanese culture of cherry blossom viewing in my own way.

It would be truly wonderful if the scenery that can only be seen here could move the hearts of the many people who visit Ginza. And if that movement in their hearts could give them a little bit of energy to live each day,
As an artist, I couldn't be happier.

Shun Sudo

Born in Tokyo in 1977, contemporary artist Shun Sudo currently lives and works in Tokyo. After moving to the United States in his twenties, Sudo self-taught himself on his travels around the world. His artistic practice, centered on painting, is comprised of an extremely diverse array of elements. These include elements inherited from the pop and street cultures of Japan and the United States that deeply influenced him growing up, such as skateboarding, graffiti, manga, and anime; elements inspired by the traditional Japanese painting and ink painting that developed in Japan and the East, which are connected to his roots; and elements borrowed from past artistic movements and trends in the history of modern and contemporary art, primarily in the West, such as Impressionism and Fauvism.
In SUDO's works, these elements coexist in a mysteriously harmonious way, while retaining their distinct characteristics. In this sense, his artwork embodies the possibilities of a new "fine art" that transcends the dichotomy between "high art" and "low art." Furthermore, while his paintings appear at first glance to be descended from Pop Art, SUDO incorporates positive messages into its iconic motif, the "peony flower." By combining this motif with various images, he aims to bring about positive change in society, embracing through his unique perspective the social revolution that traditional "Pop Art" tends to eschew. While SUDO's work has traditionally focused on acrylic paintings, characterized by their clear lines, he has recently returned to oil painting, a medium he was briefly familiar with as a child. With this unique sensibility, he is establishing his own original style, using oil paintings to express colors and lines with a depth and dimension distinct from acrylic.

About the art programs I participated in at Ginza Sony Park / Sony Park Mini

"ART IN THE PARK by SHUN SUDO"

This dynamic wall art piece, painted directly onto the basement wall of Ginza Sony Park by SHUN SUDO, was on display from March 2020 to September 2021. The motif is colorful flowers and music, which SHUN SUDO himself recalls from visiting the Sony Building as a child. He also participated in the "ART IN THE PARK / Wall Art" project, which was currently under construction, and also exhibited at Sony Park Mini.

"ART IN THE PARK (under construction)"

Along with Yamaguchi Koji and Tamayama Takuro, he also participated in the art program "ART IN THE PARK (under construction)," which opened the building, currently under construction, to the public in preparation for its grand opening in November and December 2024, exhibiting 24 new works from SHUN SUDO's iconic BUTTON FLOWER. Over the two-week period, the program attracted over 10,000 visitors from Japan and abroad, who enjoyed the space where art and architecture merged.

About Ginza Sony Park

Ginza Sony Park is a "park in the city" located on a corner of Sukiyabashi Crossing in Ginza, Tokyo. A park is essentially a place where people can freely interact and new experiences are born, precisely because it has spaces with no set usage. By designing this "space," Ginza Sony Park has become a public space that visitors can use freely, giving rise to new "activities." This also inherits the concept of a "facility open to the city" that has been cherished by the Sony Building.

The distinctive architecture, with four basement floors and five above ground, is intentionally kept to about half the height of a standard building in Ginza, bringing a sense of spaciousness and rhythm to the city. Three sides of the ground floor are open to the street, and it is directly connected to the subway and underground parking lot. Furthermore, the large atrium structure and vertical promenade that stretch from the first basement floor to the second above ground floor create a seamless connection with the city, giving it a more urban and three-dimensional feel.

Ginza Sony Park does not have any permanent tenants, but instead utilizes the space to develop a variety of activities. On the B3 floor, casual dining based on Western cuisine, "1/2 (Nibun no Ichi)," offers new experiences through food.

Ginza Sony Park was born by redefining the urban park, and its open spaces and activities continue to create new rhythms for the city and its people.
