[Mayumi Sannomaru] Symbiosis

[Mayumi Sannomaru] Symbiosis

<Work Description>
Founded in 1971, Mitsuwa Glass Craft is a vibrant workshop that maintains a bold and innovative approach. Mayumi Sannomaru is a highly skilled craftswoman with 11 years of experience, and in 2024, she became the first female craftswoman to receive the Director-General's Award for Manufacturing Industries of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (1st place).
This piece is inspired by climbing plants growing on buildings. The chrysanthemum pattern is treated as an artificial object, and the way plants intertwine with it expresses the coexistence with nature. Leaves and vines are sculpted in relief using the flower-cutting technique and densely arranged across the entire pot. Enjoy the skillful composition, where the vibrant green crystal glass shines.

[Yoshitaka Shimada] Tai Chi Dance

<Work Description>
Founded in 1949, Nabeya Glass Crafts Co., Ltd. is a third-generation business located in Ota Ward, Tokyo. Under the leadership of traditional craftsman Junichi Nabeya, Yoshinori Shimada, a craftsman with 12 years of experience, showcases his skills. The striking use of green and golden-red is immediately apparent. The powerful desire to depict swimming fish is brought to life through the best possible design and glass. The movement of the carp and the resulting ripples evoke the Yin-Yang symbol, with a complex world of patterns emerging between them. The meticulous craftsmanship, such as the use of varying cut depths to represent scales and fins, also shines through. This is an exceptional piece where dynamism, harmony, and unique details are skillfully interwoven.

[Shota Shinozaki] Decorative Plate "Sun Halo"

[Shota Shinozaki] Decorative Plate "Sun Halo"

<Work Description>
Shota, the third-generation owner of the prestigious Shinozaki Glass Craft, captivates viewers with his emotional style. This ambitious piece consciously utilizes the "halo effect," where light refracts to create a white, ethereal effect, depicting the overlapping and warmth of light. The circular chrysanthemum pattern, with its significantly offset center, creates the illusion of another plate being placed on top when viewed from an angle above. The symmetry of the surrounding hemp leaf pattern and the chrysanthemum basket weave pattern at the bottom makes this large misalignment all the more striking, creating an experience that vividly "bugs the brain."

~The background behind Fujimaki Department Store's special cooperation with the "Edo Kiriko Cherry Blossom Festival"~

While many traditional crafts are struggling with a lack of successors, the Edo Kiriko (cut glass) world is experiencing a "positive transformation" where over 50% of the artisans are young people under 40.
Behind this lies the creation of spaces like this event, where artisans can receive direct feedback from users and deliver their work under their own name, and a "cycle of knowledge" where three generations inspire each other. This interaction, where the exceptional skills of veterans intersect with the fresh sensibilities of younger generations, is evolving Edo Kiriko from a "tradition to be preserved" to a "coveted creative profession that unleashes individual sensibilities." In addition to individual advancements, the fact that each workshop is strengthening its teamwork and communication capabilities can also be considered a strength of Edo Kiriko today.
Fujimaki Department Store has supported the energy of the entire industry by creating a space where artisans and users can connect directly. This event is a stage that embodies the core themes of the Edo Kiriko industry: "raising awareness," "improving skills," and "nurturing young talent." While respecting tradition, we invite you to experience with all your senses the pulse of "the most passionate craft today," which continues to update itself, transcending generational and organizational boundaries.

What is Edo Kiriko?

Edo Kiriko is a traditional Japanese glasswork that originated in Edo (present-day Tokyo) during the late Edo period. It is said that the Edo Kiriko we know today began in 1834 when Kyubei Kagaya, a glassmaker in Edo's Odenmacho district, engraved designs onto the surface of glass using emery powder.
During the Meiji era, European cut glass techniques were introduced, and Edo Kiriko, as we know it today, developed from them. It was designated a traditional craft of Tokyo in 1985 and a national traditional craft in 2002.
