The run of the show has been extended from May 16th (Sat) to July 12th (Sun)!
Konica Minolta Planetaria TOKYO (Yurakucho, Tokyo) has decided to extend the run of "Planetarium Concert -Classical Music Around Monet-," which is currently receiving rave reviews, and to add additional performances.
This special planetarium concert features live string quartet music, primarily composed by Debussy and Ravel, who lived during the same era as Claude Monet, a leading Impressionist painter. The 360-degree projection that envelops the entire dome displays images inspired by Monet's paintings—light, color, and the changing expressions of time—creating an immersive Impressionist experience where you can "appreciate" the artwork alongside the starry sky and music.
■Explore the world in which Monet lived through classic masterpieces
This performance looks back on Monet's life through the music of composers who lived during his time. Beginning with Satie's "Gymnopédies," which evokes scenes from his childhood, the program features many well-known masterpieces such as Debussy's "The Girl with the Flaxen Hair" and "Clair de Lune."
The 360-degree panoramic video that fills the entire dome unfolds with images inspired by Monet's paintings—the light, colors, and the changing expressions of time—showcasing Monet's journey.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of Monet's death. Enjoy a rich experience of Monet's life and artistic world while gazing at the images and listening to the music in the immersive space unique to a planetarium.
■ An extraordinary planetarium concert to enjoy a string quartet performance
For this performance, the music will be performed by a special string quartet consisting of two violins, a viola, and a double bass, called KokonQuartet (Hiroshi Watanabe STRINGS).
Unlike typical string quartets, this performance incorporates a double bass, allowing for unique string arrangements of piano pieces requiring a wide frequency range from low to high, as well as orchestral pieces demanding high sound pressure. Enjoy the ensemble sound of a string quartet resonating through the starry sky.
■Program: Gymnopédies/Satie, The Girl with the Flaxen Hair/Debussy, The Yellow Queen Overture/Saint-Saëns, Pavane for a Dead Princess/Ravel, Passepied/Debussy, Symphony No. 9, 4th Movement/Beethoven, and 9 other pieces in total. *The performers for each instrument may differ depending on the performance date.

●KokonQuartet Profile●
Watanabe Hiroshi STRINGS (Ale Art Office Co., Ltd.) is a string quartet consisting of two violins, a viola, and a double bass, comprised of key members. They have gained popularity for their "Sound Stories," a performance that accompanies picture book readings.
While the lower register of a string quartet is typically provided by the cello, this quartet employs the double bass, which has an even lower range than the cello, to explore a deeper and more profound worldview.
Kokon means "cocoon" in German and represents "ancient and modern times" in Japanese.
