Approximately 3,000 umbrellas gather at Matsuya Ginza for the early summer event “GINZA’s Hundred Umbrellas Festival.”

■Wednesday, May 27, 2026 to Tuesday, June 16, 2026
■ Matsuya Ginza 1st Floor Space of Ginza

From Wednesday, May 27th to Tuesday, June 16th, Matsuya will be holding its long-running and popular "GINZA Hundred Umbrellas Fair" at Space of Ginza on the 1st floor. This event, which has been held at Matsuya Ginza since the early Showa period, will be held for the first time in two years. In addition to umbrellas to alleviate the gloom of the rainy season and typhoons, the selection of parasols, which have become an essential item in the recent heatwaves, will be doubled compared to the number of umbrellas .
A wide variety of umbrellas , from 100% sun-blocking parasols to luxury umbrellas costing over 200,000 yen , have been gathered in one place from both Japan and abroad. With the increasingly severe heat waves, including the newly coined term "extreme heat day" for days with a maximum temperature of 40℃ or higher this year, we are taking a positive approach to the situation and proposing an umbrella that will allow you to enjoy going out comfortably even in harsh environments.

*Men's all-weather umbrellas are available on the 5th floor in the "Men's Accessories Department," and demand this year is rising at a faster pace than usual.

Recent sales of parasols and umbrellas that can be used in both sun and rain are 1.4 times higher than last year, reflecting the accelerated demand for "extreme heat and heatstroke prevention" ahead of schedule.

Against the backdrop of record-breaking temperature increases in recent years, the demand for umbrellas has dramatically shifted from "a tool to protect from the rain" to "a heat-receiving piece of equipment to protect one's life." At Matsuya Ginza, sales of umbrellas for both sun and rain started exceptionally quickly from late March this year, with sales from March to May reaching 140% of the previous year's figures. Parasols are no longer merely accessories; their role has changed to that of a "portable shelter" to protect oneself from the harsh heat.

Traditionally, the mainstream size for umbrellas that could be used in both sunny and rainy weather was around 50cm, but recently, there has been a shift towards "larger models" of 55cm or more that can block heat and light over a wider area.
