Live broadcasts from the Tingatinga workshop in Tanzania are also planned during the exhibition period.
This exhibition will feature and sell approximately 50 new works by popular artists of Tingatinga art, a leading contemporary art form in Tanzania, including Siwa Tingatinga, Maurus Malikita, and Akily.
Furthermore, two extremely rare original drawings by Edward Saidi Tingatinga, the founder of Tingatinga art, will be on special display. During the exhibition period, the first 10 visitors each day will receive an original "Tingatinga Art Exhibition 2026 Summer" sticker as a gift.
What is Tingatinga art?
Tingatinga art is a form of modern painting created in 1968 by Tanzanian painter Edward Saidi Tingatinga.
Characterized by vibrant colors achieved using architectural enamel paint, bold compositions, and lively depictions of animals, this style is now recognized worldwide as a representative art and culture of Tanzania.
In recent years, his work has gained high acclaim, particularly in Europe, and has been featured in museums, galleries, and art fairs, attracting many collectors. Each piece is an original, hand-painted work by the artist himself, and no two pieces are exactly alike.
Its bright and powerful worldview has recently attracted attention in Japan as "art that makes you feel energized just by looking at it."
The latest works by three internationally acclaimed and popular artists will be on display.
Siwa Tingatinga
She is the granddaughter of Edward Saidi Tingatinga, the founder of Tingatinga art.
While cherishing the traditions inherited from her grandfather, she depicts her own unique worldview with a feminine sensibility and vibrant colors. Her works, featuring adorable animals and nature as motifs, are highly popular in Europe and have captivated many fans in Japan as well.
Maurus Malikita
A highly accomplished artist representing Tingatinga, boasting numerous awards in art competitions both domestically and internationally.
The artist's works, which depict the lives, traditional culture, and coexistence with nature of the Tanzanian people from a unique perspective, are full of warmth and narrative. The rich expressiveness, with its meticulous attention to detail, is highly regarded by collectors in Europe and around the world, and its popularity is growing year by year in Japan as well.
Akily
A popular artist who depicts the vitality of wild animals with bold compositions and vivid colors.
The artist powerfully depicts iconic African animals such as lions, elephants, and baboons, captivating viewers with their overwhelming presence and dynamism. Highly regarded in Europe, the artist is supported by many art fans and collectors.
Live broadcast from a Tingatinga workshop in Tanzania
During the exhibition, we will hold a live streaming event that connects the venue with a Tingatinga art studio in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, allowing attendees to interact with local artists online.
This special event offers a real-time look at the production sites and workshops where the artworks are created, and also allows Japanese visitors to enjoy direct communication with Tanzanian artists.
This is a rare opportunity in Japan to experience the culture and the feelings of the people behind Tingatinga art, which cannot be conveyed through the artwork alone.
The first 10 customers each day will receive an original sticker.
During the exhibition period, the first 10 visitors each day will receive a limited-edition original sticker from the "Tingatinga Art Exhibition 2026 Summer."
This is a limited-quantity, rare souvenir that you can take home as a memento of the exhibition.
