“Invisible Garden,” a joint exhibition by artist Asami Kiyokawa and sculptor Kohei Nawa.

The Pola Museum Annex (Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) will host "Invisible Garden," a joint exhibition by artist Asami Kiyokawa and sculptor Kohei Nawa, from Wednesday, September 16th to Sunday, November 8th, 2026.

"Invisible Garden" is an exhibition conceived in conjunction with the publication of Kiyokawa's book, "Invisible Garden." In today's world, where information is constantly flowing and the boundaries between reality and virtuality, nature and artificiality can no longer be defined, this exhibition depicts a "garden" as a landscape where various tangible and intangible things such as droplets and spores, microorganisms and plants and animals, as well as human memories, time, dreams, and imagination, come alive.

In this first joint exhibition by Kiyokawa and Nawa, each of their works maintains its individual presence while responding to one another within the exhibition space, creating an organic whole. Stories woven through Kiyokawa's embroidery and images covered and transformed by Nawa's cell art—their colors and outlines quietly emerge within the white-unified space, gently connecting as a single "garden" takes shape.

At the heart of this exhibition is a large-scale new work, "PixCell-Our New World," a collaboration between the two artists, measuring approximately 9 meters in width. Kiyokawa constructed the image (Our New World) using fragments of landscape photographs and generated AI images, and Nawa covered it with transparent cells, causing the image to waver vaguely as it repeatedly divides and merges. It can truly be described as a new landscape that emerges from the intersection of their respective expressions. In addition, the exhibition will also feature new works such as "PixCell-Random," one of the recent developments of Nawa's representative work "PixCell," and Kiyokawa's "Serendipity."

As viewers walk through the space, they overlap fragmented images with their own memories and sensations, picking up the signs of life lurking within. A "garden" is not a completed landscape, but a sensory space that arises when the world and people meet. Through the resonance between the artwork and the space, "Invisible Garden" slowly cultivates a unique "invisible garden" in the heart of each individual viewer.

In addition to the gallery on the third floor, works will also be displayed in the "POLA GINZA" store on the first floor during the exhibition period. An installation will be presented consisting of works featuring plants and raindrops as motifs. The world that unfolds from Kiyokawa's books will connect the two spaces, and viewers will be able to stroll between them, encountering new discoveries and dialogues with each step.

Asami Kiyokawa

Contemporary artist / Art director

Born on Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture, she is based in Tokyo. Starting with her unique style of embroidering on photographs, magazines, fabrics, and books, she creates works based on the theme of "making the invisible visible." In recent years, she has been working across various fields, including two-dimensional works, installations, public art, video, and publishing, with themes of memory, mythology, nature, and imagination in the age of AI.

His representative works include "Our New World," "Dream Time," and the "Serendipity" series.
He has held numerous exhibitions both in Japan and abroad, including the large-scale public art piece "Our New World (Toranomon)" at Toranomon Hills Station. He is also dedicated to educational activities, giving special lectures at Osaka University of Arts and working on creative projects with children and community cultural projects.
In addition to illustrating books such as Kenji Miyazawa's "Night on the Galactic Railroad," her own works include "One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each, for a Thousand Years Later." Her new book, "Invisible Garden," is scheduled for publication in 2026.

Kohei Nawa

Sculptor / Founder of Sandwich Inc. / Professor at Kyoto University of the Arts

Born in 1975, he is based in Kyoto. In 2003, he completed his doctoral studies in sculpture at the Kyoto City University of Arts Graduate School of Fine Arts. In 2009, he founded "Sandwich." Focusing on the "epidermis" of sculpture as an interface that connects to the senses, he continues to create works based on the concept of cells (particles). He flexibly interprets the definition of sculpture and has created perceptual experiences in which the physical properties of the material are revealed to the viewer.

In recent years, he has also worked on architectural projects, such as the art pavilion "Kotei." Since 2015, he has created performance works such as "VESSEL," "Mist," "Planet [wanderer]," and "Mirage" in collaboration with Belgian choreographer Damien Jalet. In 2018, his sculpture "Throne" was specially exhibited inside the Pyramid of the Louvre Museum in France. In 2023, his outdoor sculpture "Ether (Equality)" was permanently installed on Île Seguin in the Seine River in France.

Recent solo exhibitions include "Sentient" (SCAI THE BATHHOUSE, Tokyo, 2025) and "Photon Camp" (Pace Gallery, Los Angeles, 2026).
