overview
Park Yong-jae has primarily presented paintings that depict mental landscapes where reality and fantasy intersect, based on inner themes such as loneliness, loss, dreams, and rebirth. The title of this exhibition, "Tropic of Capricorn," refers to the boundary line on Earth where the sun's orbit reverses. Park interprets this word as a spiritual turning point that occurs along the way of life, and depicts the cyclical nature of life as it transforms through his new series. Ray, Eden, and Moly, who appear on the canvases, are fictional characters that symbolize the loneliness and existence of urban dwellers. Their journey from the silence of the city to the "in-between" realm where reality and fantasy intersect, and their transformation into a dream world, is depicted like a story. Through the cyclical trajectory woven from birth and extinction, loss and rebirth, viewers are given an opportunity to reflect on their own memories and existence.
Artist Statement
This series is not meant to document wear and tear or loss. It is a hymn to the hopeful act of "return." Just as the boundaries between the beginning and end of a canvas disappear, becoming a single cycle, our lives, too, are reborn each time we let go, imbued with the warmth of new life. I hope that you, who have silently continued to walk the heavy trajectory of reality, will be able to rediscover the forgotten cradle sleeping within you at the end of this corridor. Our lives, in this way, beautifully cycle again and again. And then, quietly, we return once more.

Artist Profile
Park Yong Jae
Born in 1982. Based in Seoul.
Park Yong-jae is an artist who transcends the boundaries of two-dimensional expression, creating hyperrealistic sculptures and paintings in parallel. After gaining recognition for his meticulously crafted figurine works that recreate real people, he has expanded his range of expression to include paintings that explore themes of dreams, memories, and the boundaries of everyday life. His canvases, which reconstruct cities, nature, vague childhood memories, and landscapes remaining in the subconscious, feature anthropomorphic animals and depict a fantastical world where reality and dreams intersect. Through these two forms of expression, painting and sculpture, he continues to delicately explore the inner world and freedom of modern people, moving between form and emotion, reality and memory.

FOAM CONTEMPORARY
Combining the flexible concept of "liquid" with the conventional white cube-like space equipped with all the necessary facilities, this space, named "FOAM," represents an intermediate state that offers a multifaceted expression of the Japanese art scene.
The initial "O" in the logo is deliberately distorted to resemble a bubble. This represents the ever-changing contemporary art scene itself, while also symbolizing the free, flexible, and limitless expression of artists.
As a space for expression that explores and cultivates the value and appeal of art that transcends the life cycle while staying true to the actual times, we will introduce a variety of artists who deserve attention, regardless of their career or age.
