Ginza Ashiya Shoten (GINZA SIX 6F, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) will present his solo exhibition “Yamamoto Toshio-YAMAMOTO Masao BONSAI – Microcosms Macrocosms” by photographer Masao Yamamoto from Friday, November 1, 2019 to Friday, November 30 ( Sat) will be held at Art Wall Gallery in Ginza Ashiya Shoten.
Masao Yamamoto, a photographer who is active mainly in Europe and the United States and is highly regarded internationally for delicate and poetic photographic works and installations using monochrome techniques that are said to be transcendent. Japanese and spiritual beauty continues to attract many fans at home and abroad.
In this exhibition, in addition to the work “BONSAI”, a bonsai that lives only in human hands and water in a small bowl placed in the magnificent scenery of Yatsugatake and the foot of Mt. Fuji, it was produced while facing the mystery of nature. We will exhibit and sell a group of works, a newly published photo book “Ichiki Tezuka”, and a rare book that became out of print. In addition, a limited edition print will be included, and a special edition of the photo book “Ichiki Tanenaka” will be shown for the first time at this exhibition.
The title of the exhibition, “One Drop in Hand”, is a coined word by Yamamoto and is based on Zen teachings that “the universe also dwells in a single drop of dew”. Both Yamamoto's photographs and bonsai were created to be squeezed from the hands of people as they face nature. There is a world that pursues the ultimate beauty that people, works and nature interweave.
Please take a look at the second solo exhibition by Ginza Ashiya Shoten, which was held as one of the opening programs in 2017.
