Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore (GINZA SIX 6F, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) will hold Shohei Yamamoto's solo exhibition "Calcite on Myth: Greek Beauty" on the in-store art wall, exhibiting 6 new works. The period is from Saturday, October 8, 2022 to Friday, October 28.
·Overview
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1994, Shohei Yamamoto is an artist who graduated from Kyoto University of Art and Design in 2019.
After simulating the production using image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, he is known for works that repeat motifs such as iconography and famous sculptures using self-made rollers.
In an environment overflowing with digital reproductions, he dares to use analog repetition with his self-made rollers, fixing the process of repetition of iconography and symbols, which are often thought to be hollow, on the screen, creating a contingency that cannot be expressed digitally. increase.
At the opening solo exhibition at Ritsuki Fujisaki Gallery in March of this year, he presented a new series "Calcite on Myth". Until now, motifs such as iconography and famous sculptures have been repeated with a roller, but in the new series, on a panel that has a sculpted photo of a god that appears in myth (= Myth), you can create your own work. A roller is used to repeat paint mixed with calcite. The use of calcite creates a unique unevenness on the repeated surface.
In the new series, the material of paint that repeats the background of myths and stories is in the foreground, presenting a painting structure that is the exact opposite of his previous works.
This exhibition presents 6 new works from the "Calcite on Myth" series, which are related to the goddess of beauty in Greek mythology.
Please enjoy the world of Shohei Yamamoto's work at the venue.
