·overview
YU SORA was born in South Korea in 1987. In 2020, she completed her Master's in Sculpture at the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School. She creates casual domestic scenes, mainly through sculptures and installations using white cloth and black thread. Although the home is an extremely private space, the works created by YU SORA evoke a sense of familiarity that anyone can empathize with. This is because the motifs she chooses are commonplace and familiar to not only the artist but also the viewer, creating scenes that evoke individual memories and experiences through the objects.
This exhibition reflects the changes in the artist's family, having given birth last year, and her recent life influenced by the presence of a baby. Within the overall theme of "expressing the importance of fragile everyday life," the exhibition reveals the artist's perspective as she attempts to capture the changes in everyday life that come with changing life stages.
・Artist statement
I love myself so much that I started drawing my room and my daily life. As I continued to create works, I realized that this everyday appearance is fragile and can be greatly destroyed by even the smallest things.
We see on TV and the Internet images of many people losing their normal lives due to disasters, accidents, infectious diseases, wars, etc. In the back of our minds, we always feel anxiety and fear that such a day may come, whether it be in our immediate surroundings or to us.
My child was born and turned one year old. Behind this new happiness, new anxieties have also begun to emerge. As the number of things I want to protect increases, so do the number of things I fear. Small things bring joy, and small things shake up our daily lives. Although our daily lives always look similar, they shake and change in this way, becoming a new daily life.
In the past, I used to walk around the city and look at people's houses from the outside. On sunny days, laundry is hung out to dry on the veranda or in the garden. On rainy days, laundry is hung out to dry on the windowsill. Flower pots in front of the entrance.
Now, among them, I find families with small children, children's clothes hanging out to dry, strollers and toys in front of the entrance, etc. Even now, at a new stage in my life, I find peace and relief in finding similarities in the everyday lives of strangers.
I would like to depict that peace and sense of security in the midst of our everyday lives, which will continue to change many times in the future. I hope that when someone's daily life is shaken, my work can be a small source of strength to help them move forward to a new normal.

・FOAM CONTEMPORARY
Combining "LIQUID," which evokes the image of flexible project content, with "SOLID," a space fully equipped as a traditional white cube, the intermediate form known as "FOAM" is an expressive space that reflects the Japanese art scene from multiple angles.
The first "O" in the logo is intentionally misshapen to evoke the image of a bubble. It represents the ever-changing contemporary art scene itself, while also expressing the image of an artist's free, flexible and infinite expression.
As an expressive space that explores and fosters the value and joy of art that transcends the life cycle of art, while staying in tune with the actuality of the times, we will introduce a variety of noteworthy artists regardless of their career history or age.
