We will be holding "CUTLERY", an exhibition by five cutlery artists.

What we call tools are things that were created and have developed to increase the convenience of human communication with other humans and with their environment. One of the reasons for this is probably the idea that tools are an extension or substitute for human bodily organs.

In the past, humans used to eat food with their own hands. It was said that because they were putting something given to them by God, a blessing from nature, into their bodies, they should ingest it with their own hands.

However, as humans gained knowledge and developed the will to form connections with others, it is likely that cutlery's role developed into more social aspects, such as being a tool to indicate one's status and as a sign of manners and etiquette. However, cutlery is a rare item, something that blends unintentionally into everyday life, and something that we find simple and endearing.

As they are often used as collectibles or as gifts or keepsakes, they are one of those tools that blends well with the richness of life.

Although cutlery has undergone many changes in shape, material, and functionality due to changes in society, as a tool that is an extension of the hand and represents our connection to all things, I believe that it will continue to be a part of our lives for some time to come, remaining unchanged, and will continue to fascinate people.

For this exhibition, we have asked five cutlery artists to exhibit their works.

Focusing on metalwork, various cutlery will be displayed, with a focus on materials, production techniques, uses and decorations. The act of holding and grasping with the hand is the simplest and most primitive action that humans have learned, and the small shape that fits in the palm of the hand. However, this is precisely why this work was created to tackle the delicate task that requires an enormous amount of passion to put effort into it.

We hope you enjoy it.

A metalwork artist based in Niigata Prefecture, she creates brass accessories and cutlery made of copper with tin on top, using natural motifs such as plant seeds, fruits, and insects.
Using the technique of "metal forging," in which metal sheets are struck with a hammer to change their shape, and then using a tool called a chisel to add further patterns, he creates works with intricate, carefully decorated pieces that are born from the repeated hammering process, based on the concept of "things that add a little spice to everyday life."

Mitsuhiro Konishi

He is based in Kyoto and creates cutlery inspired by the cultures, eras, stories and shapes of plants of various countries. His cutlery is characterized by its unique shapes that allow the user to use their imagination freely.

Lue
Born in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture in 1983. In 2000, she began making accessories by engraving under her father, Masaaki Kikuchi, an accessory artist, and currently produces cutlery such as spoons, miscellaneous goods, and accessories, mainly using brass. With two lines, handmade crafts and industrial products, Lue aims to create products that can be used for a long time, and their brass products make your daily life softer and warmer.
