■It's happening again this year! The heated battle to decide the Grand Prix winners: "Paella Championship" and "Tapas Championship"
The competition will be judged fairly by a panel of judges who are experts in Spanish cuisine. The top three places in each competition will be determined by the judges' scores and the votes of visitors over the three days, and the results will be announced on the final day, Sunday, April 6th.
Each year, each restaurant tries their best to come up with a paella or tapas that matches the event, with the aim of winning. The winning restaurant will be presented with an original "paella pan trophy" made from a paella pan.
■First time! "Prosciutto Championship" held with a super-sized kitchen car
With the full cooperation of the Japan Prosciutto Association, the Prosciutto Championship will be held for the first time. The highlight is the heated battle that takes place in a super-sized food truck. The ham is sliced right in front of the visitors! You can eat fresh prosciutto before the fat has melted.
■ The winning restaurant will be invited to a training session in Spain! "Valenciana Paella Japan Competition"
A national competition will be held for "Valenciana Paella," which is said to be the origin of paella and uses chicken and rabbit. The competition will begin on Friday, April 4th at 9am. Paella pans will be lined up in a row, and the paella will be cooked over "firewood" just like in the real thing. All competitors will use the same ingredients and equipment, and the competition judges will taste and score the dishes on the spot. A set that allows participants to compare the flavors of all the participating stores will be sold exclusively to registered members of the Japan Paella Association.
The competition will be held at restaurants participating in the paella championship. The restaurant that wins first place in Japan will receive a championship trophy and a "Spain study trip" as a prize from the Japan Paella Association.
In addition, a portion of the sales will be donated to flood-affected areas in the Valencia region of Spain through the Spanish Embassy.
