[Wako, Ginza] The exhibition “Irosabi” curated by tefutefu by Mori Hikari will be held for the first time in Japan

Wako Co., Ltd. will hold the "Irosabi" exhibition, curated by the project "tefutefu," whose creative director is model Mori Hikari, at the Arts and Culture on the basement floor of the Wako main store from August 1st (Friday) to 20th (Wednesday), 2025.

"tefutefu" is a project that touches upon Japanese history, traditions, and original landscapes, while reexamining the culture and aesthetics of life related to clothing, food, and shelter, and disseminating them both domestically and internationally. This exhibition, curated by tefutefu, is a special exhibition and sale that focuses on the "colors" woven by materials, techniques, and time.
The first "irosabi" exhibition in Japan will be based on the theme of the Los Angeles exhibition, "irosabi," and will be constructed from a new perspective, carefully weaving a world of "irosabi" that is deeply rooted in the context of Japanese culture. Set in Ginza, Tokyo, where the city and nature, the everyday and the extraordinary intersect, the exhibition will focus on the traces of "time" that reside in materials and techniques, and bring to light the beauty that resides in quiet colors.
"Irojaku" refers to the spirit of shining a spotlight on the "time" that objects have spent alongside people's lives, focusing on the "colors" of materials, objects, and scenery that take on texture and expression over time, and appreciating the fleeting colors that appear in a changing world.
Artisans and artists who combine traditional handicrafts and craftsmanship with new perspectives and continue to work towards the future will take center stage. To commemorate the first anniversary of Arts and Culture, we will also be hosting the participation of artists who have worked alongside Wako up until now. We will be presenting this special exhibition as one that could only be realized in the space of Arts and Culture, where sensibility and culture intersect.

■ Exhibitors (planned)
Asahiyaki 16th Generation Matsubayashi Hosai, Eocene Arts, Okurayama Studio, Kawai Yu, Taniguchi Gen, Hirotani Yukari, Yoshioka Sarasa, tefutefu, etc.

■Director's Message
The sun rises and sets, and the leaves decay and return to the earth.
We gave it the name "Irojaku" to reflect the beauty that lies in its quiet activity.
Life, color, and emotion all breathe within time.
I have been exposed to handicrafts from around the world through my experience as a fashion model.
The preciousness of things that deepens over time is an important value that is also present in the Japanese aesthetic sense.
At Wako, a place named after the character for "light," expressions woven across generations resonate with each other,
I hope this will help you find small blessings and hope in your daily life.

■ Wako Arts and Culture

The basement of the main store will be reborn as "Arts and Culture" on July 20, 2024. This floor is not just a place to shop, but a base for conveying the stories behind the products, such as the traditions and techniques that have been passed down for hundreds of years, the Japanese aesthetic sense born from how we interact with nature, and the time spent pursuing creativity, and is a place for culture and people to interact.

Since the founding of its predecessor, Hattori Watch Shop, Wako has introduced products that represent the best of artisan craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology, and has held regular art exhibitions to foster diverse perspectives and inspiration through its interactions with the people who gather there. While carrying on the spirit of respecting arts and culture that runs through Wako, we will continue to present the works of Japanese craftsmen and contemporary artists from the unique perspective of the basement.

■ tefutefu, Inc.

Tefutefu, Inc. will reexamine the traditions and skills that have been passed down since ancient times in Japan, as well as the culture and aesthetics of life related to food, clothing, and shelter, and disseminate them both domestically and internationally. We believe that the Japanese way of thinking, behavior, and aesthetic sense of harmony with nature contain many hints for balancing the mind and body and enriching the sensibilities in modern life.
The name "Tefu Tefu" is an old Japanese word meaning butterfly. Like a butterfly, we will convey the Japanese sense of beauty to everyone, lightly and gracefully, across time and borders.
