On December 31st (Tuesday), the neon lights will decrease, and the Ginza 4-chome intersection at midnight will end in 2019. Forty-five seconds before the new year, the Westminster-style chime of Wako's clock tower begins the 2020 prologue. At the end of the chime, the midnight bell of 12 strokes follows the lingering sound. The moment when the first shot resounds is the beginning of the new year, 2020. Along with the bell, the Wako clock tower and the whole building are lit up *, and appear in the night sky of Ginza.
The bell announces the New Year, and the shutter on the Wako show window facing the intersection opens, celebrating the opening of a new year for the first time in Reiwa.
