Exhibition poster

After graduating from the Faculty of Art and Design of Musashino Art University, Yuji Kimura established the Kimura Design Office in 1982 after working at the Mori Kei Design Laboratory and the Ejima Design Office, where he was enrolled for 10 years. Including "Esquire Japan version" which I participated in from the first issue as an art director, "Wingspan", "Mrs.", "High fashion", "Waka", "Kurashi no Techo", "Asahi Shimbun GLOBE", etc. Focusing on magazines, he has been a leader in Japanese editorial design such as books and newspapers.

Clear composition, layout that complements photos and illustrations, and effective margins. Kimura's beautiful magazine-making style, which has both strength and delicacy, does not age over the years, and makes you feel fresh and sophisticated every time you pick it up or turn the page.

The oil painting "The Gleaners" by the French painter Jean-Francois Millet. Kimura calls what he has collected in his work and in his daily life, "Gleaning". A number of "falling ears" that were selected and brought in by Kimura's eyes and hearts without even knowing it. In this exhibition, I will try to pick up and verify the "falling ears" that have been gathered for many years with Kimura's career and are randomly spilling here and there. What kind of influence did the "falling ears" have on shaping Kimura's work so far? What kind of scenery will this endless fight with Kimura's "Gleaning" show us? It has been about 40 years since Kimura Design Office was established. This will be Kimura's first solo exhibition in Japan. Please look forward to it.

———————————————————————-

Full of falling ears.

Something,
For example, when I'm working, I don't notice my feet.

When did it accumulate?
Yes, long ago.

In your pocket, in your drawer, in your bag,
Inside the box, sandwiched between the pages of the book, so
The surrounding area is full of falling ears.

If you come back from your trip someday, open the window and let the air through
Let's shed light.

When I was working, I've only seen it before.
If you notice, there is a mountain of falling ears at your feet. For example
If you take a walk, you can pick up the leaves and take them home.
Put it in a big book. Forget it while sandwiching it. It is called "Gleaning".

The work was once finished for the solo exhibition.
I hear a voice saying not to display it as it is.
It was also a solo exhibition at Singapore JCC in 2010
A sticker-shaped print was attached directly to the wall, and the original was not exhibited as a fake.

Work will be with Gleaning. Come back to life together.

Yuji Kimura
