Edo Kiriko "Japan's Largest" Festival "Love Nippon! Edo Kiriko Cherry Blossom Festival 2021" @ Tokyu Plaza Ginza. Held for 3 days from April 16th (Friday) to 18th (Sunday)
"Love Nippon! Edo Kiriko Cherry Blossom Festival 2021" will be held at Tokyu Plaza Ginza from April 16th (Friday) to 18th (Sunday). Among the many contents available, the "Edo Kiriko Cut Experience Workshop" is particularly noteworthy.
This super popular event was almost full with advance reservations when it was held in 2019. Last year it was canceled due to the corona sickness, but this year it will be held after taking all possible measures against infectious diseases (sponsored by Edo Kiriko Cooperative, special cooperation: Fujimaki Department Store).
In this workshop, you can cut Edo Kiriko with your own hands while receiving direct help from traditional craftsmen. There is no doubt that the experience of being able to experience Edo Kiriko, a traditional craft that has a particularly strong momentum, will be a memory of this spring. Don't miss this precious opportunity!

- What is Edo Kiriko?
Japanese traditional glass shavings that started in Edo (present-day Tokyo) from the latter half of the Edo period.
In 1834, Kyubei Kagaya, a beadro shop in Tenmacho, Edo, carved the surface of the glass with hard sand, which is said to be the beginning of Edo Kiriko, which is handed down to this day.
In the Meiji era, European cut glass and crystal glass techniques were introduced, and it developed as an Edo sword that has been handed down to the present day.
In 1985, it was designated as a traditional art of Tokyo, and in 2002, it was designated as a national traditional art.
