It can be said that "laminate" is a word that simply expresses the essence of Ricoh's printing. The core of StareReap's technology can be said to be the repeated stacking of printed layers with a thickness of about one hair, building up to several millimeters. Due to the characteristics of UV inkjet printing, the compatibility with layered images is very good, and the three artists exhibiting in this exhibition are pursuing the possibilities of StareReap with their own methods.
After receiving the VOCA Award, the highest award at the VOCA Exhibition in 2019, Shinnosuke Tojo continues to actively present his work, including holding a solo exhibition at the Koumi-cho Kogen Museum of Art in 2021. In his usual work, he creates metallic and illusionistic paintings by grinding a plate of oxidized copper, using the images that are inherent in himself as the subject matter. For StareReap's latest work, I created a unique piece by painting and processing on a transparent printed acrylic support. He treats prints as a material, and interprets StareReap from the two axes of material and painting.
Haru Matsuda is an up-and-coming artist currently studying at Kyoto University of the Arts Graduate School. Combining VR, which is a reproduction of space, and printmaking, which is a reproduction of painting, he expresses a landscape composed of fragments of abstract images that are distinct from high-resolution virtual space. Until now, I have been producing works based on the silkscreen technique, but this time I will present a large-scale work that makes use of StareReap's ability to directly print digital work data.
Liu Ika is a photographer from Inner Mongolia, China. In 2019, the 21st Photo “1_WALL” Exhibition Grand Prix, and this summer, the visuals of Mr. Takeshi Kitano and others in the autumn / winter men’s campaign of the luxury brand “LOEWE” became a big topic.
It has been selected for next year's VOCA exhibition, and it has become a long-awaited participation in the group exhibition at the time when attention is gathering. This exhibition presents a series of works on the themes of motherhood, physicality, and the soul, which Ryu has a strong interest in. Works from this exhibition will also be exhibited at the VOCA exhibition.
How will media such as painting, digital, and photography compete with Stare Reap's technology to create new forms of expression?
