Art Aquarium Museum GINZA (location/Ginza Mitsukoshi) will be holding an ukiyo-e exhibition for a limited time from October 13th (Friday) to November 30th (Thursday), as part of a special autumn project titled “Genius Painter Kuniyoshi Utagawa and Edo Pop Art.'' It will be held in the area.
In this special exhibition, we will display 36 works by Kuniyoshi Utagawa, a popular ukiyo-e artist from the Edo period who is known as a genius.We will introduce you to ukiyo-e, a traditional Japanese art that has continued since the Edo period, and the charm of the artist Kuniyoshi. .
You can view it in the exhibition space set up at the end of the Art Aquarium Museum, so please enjoy this exhibition after enjoying the art of living and goldfish art.

In this special exhibition, an anthropomorphic goldfish from the work “Bonbon'' from the Goldfish Series will pop out to guide you through the exhibition. Even those who don't usually appreciate or have little interest in ukiyo-e can easily enjoy Edo pop art, so please take this opportunity to experience traditional Japanese art that has continued since the Edo period. please look.
●Bonbon <br /> Among Kuniyoshi's works, the popular series “Kingyo Zukushi'' depicts anthropomorphic goldfish enjoying the lives of people in Edo.
“Bonbon'', one of the “Kingyo Zukushi'' series, is a work that expresses the seasonal play of Obon, where children walk while holding hands and singing “Bonbon songs.'' The world where goldfish are anthropomorphized is interestingly expressed in even the smallest details, such as the fans held by the goldfish being turned into scooping nets and the algae in the water being made to look like willows.
A goldfish with a scooping net will serve as the navigator for this exhibition, guiding you through Kuniyoshi's ukiyo-e prints in an interesting and fun way.
・Not just goldfish! Kuniyoshi's cat works, monster paintings, and landscape paintings will also be exhibited.
The Utagawa Kuniyoshi Collection, a permanent exhibit, displays paintings of goldfish and carp from Kuniyoshi's works, but in this project, Kuniyoshi, who is said to be a cat lover, will also display works depicting cats, monster paintings, and landscape paintings. We will also exhibit it. Please enjoy Edo pop art typical of Kuniyoshi, which shines through the dynamic screen compositions and unique perspectives and ideas of an artist known as a genius.

Kuniyoshi is known as a big cat lover. We will also exhibit works with cats as their theme. The works drawn by cat-loving artists are full of ingenuity down to the smallest details! Please take your time to admire each cat one by one and pay attention to Kuniyoshi's humorous expressions.

●Landscape paintings depicting the lives of people in Edo <br />We will exhibit 9 works out of Kuniyoshi's series of Western-style landscape paintings, 5 paintings of “Tokyo XX'' and 10 “Tokyo Famous Places''. Please take a look at the pop art of the Edo period, which draws attention to the lives of the people of Edo, using Western perspective and unique expression methods.
