Famous item featured in the movie "The Wizard of Oz" discovered 13 years after it was stolen by the FBI
The actual item, worth an estimated 450 million yen*, will be on public display for the first time in Japan at Ginza Mitsukoshi
The iconic "Ruby Slippers" prop from the timeless Hollywood classic "The Wizard of Oz" will be on display at Ginza Mitsukoshi from October 28th (Mon) to November 3rd (Sun).
The Wizard of Oz's Ruby Slippers, which will be auctioned in December 2024 at Heritage Auctions, the world's largest auction house originating from the United States and leading the collector's item market, were discovered 13 years later by an FBI search after being stolen, and are said to be worth an estimated 450 million yen*, attracting attention from around the world. The exhibition at Ginza Mitsukoshi will be the first public exhibition in Japan prior to the auction.

What is "Ruby Slippers"?
There are only four pairs of "ruby slippers" known to exist in the world, and the pair on display are the pair used in the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz." These "ruby slippers" were stolen from the Judy Garland Museum in 2005, and a bounty of US$1 million was offered for their discovery, but they remained missing for 13 years despite an FBI investigation. After being discovered in 2018, they were returned to their owner, Michael Shaw, in February of this year, and this exhibition will be the first time they have been shown to the public in Japan since their theft.
