Exhibition of world-renowned foil artist Hiroto Rakusho “Memory of the Moon” to be held at Artglorieux GALLERY OF TOKYO (GINZA SIX 5F)

Artglorieux GALLERY OF TOKYO, an art gallery operated by Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store on the 5th floor of GINZA SIX, will be holding a solo exhibition called "Memories of the Moon" by Hiroto Rakusho, an artist who has received high praise both in Japan and abroad for his unique artworks that incorporate the traditional gold and silver leaf techniques of Nishijin, Kyoto.
The exhibition will run from Thursday, February 20th to Wednesday, February 26th, 2025. *The gallery will be closed on Tuesday, February 25th.

The "Memory of the Moon" exhibition will feature a number of works of the moon created by Rakusho. These works have a warm glow, as if the moon, which has remained unchanged since ancient times, had descended upon the night sky.

■ Hiroto Rakusho

Born in Nishijin, Kyoto in 1962. A leaf artist and traditional craftsman, he inherited the family business from his father, a leaf craftsman who is a Kyoto City Distinguished Service Awardee for Traditional Industry Technology, and worked as a leaf traditional craftsman of Kyoto Nishijin textiles until he was 40 years old.
He is also in charge of restoring the foil portions of cultural assets such as folding screens and sliding door paintings at Kenninji Temple and other shrines and temples, making use of traditional foil techniques. Wanting to pass on the traditional Japanese techniques he inherited to the world, not just Japan, from the age of 40, he has exhibited his work as a foil artist in New York, Paris, London, Kuwait, Singapore and other places around the world. He has also attracted attention in Japan as a one-of-a-kind foil artist, and in recent years has exhibited his work as symbols for companies and hotels, and his work has been featured in numerous films, television shows and magazines.
