39 holders of Important Intangible Cultural Properties (Living National Treasures) in the five fields of crafts: pottery, dyeing and weaving, lacquerware, metalwork, and wood and bamboo work will be exhibiting their works.

Seiko House Hall will be holding the "Craftsmanship and Kôgei Creation – Living National Treasures Exhibition" from April 3rd (Thurs) to 20th (Sun). This exhibition, which is held every spring and brings together works by important intangible cultural property holders (living national treasures) in five craft fields, will mark its 10th anniversary.

"Living National Treasures" is the colloquial term for "holders of important intangible cultural properties." These individuals have honed their craft skills over a long period of time, developed their own unique style, and become leaders in their field.

This time, 39 artists will be exhibiting works across five craft fields: ceramics, dyeing and weaving, lacquerware, metalwork, and wood and bamboo work.
Although the materials used are different, the "spirit of Japanese crafts" is handed down through the generations in the works, where the artist creates the form of beauty he or she envisions through repeated dialogue with the material. Japan's craft culture, which has been going on for a thousand years, is an important asset not only in Japan but also around the world.
Please take this opportunity to see these fascinating works that combine the advanced techniques handed down through the ages with the beauty of utility that fits into modern life.

*Gallery talks by exhibiting artists are scheduled.
