[Ginza Wako] “Three Generations of Master Katsuri Ito Hisashige Exhibition: Connecting Skills and Spirit” to be held from January 15, 2026 (Thursday)

This is the 14th exhibition by the current 12th generation artist, Hisashige Ito, at Wako, and the first in three years.

Wako Ginza will be holding the exhibition "Three Generations of Master Katsunori Ito Hisashige: Connecting Skills and Spirit" at the Seiko House Hall from Thursday, January 15th to Sunday, January 25th, 2026.
The Ito family, a family of court doll makers, has been creating Gosho dolls in Kyoto for generations since the mid-Edo period. The Gosho dolls, which are passed down from father to son, are characterized by their woodcarving technique using paulownia wood, their glossy white skin, and their adorable three-headed figures.
This exhibition brings together the expressions of beauty envisioned by three generations of Ito family makers: Hisashige Ito, the current 12th generation, Shogoro Ito, and Daichi Ito.
The current head of the family, Hisashige, will exhibit a range of elegant Gosho dolls, as well as decorative boxes and other decorative works with gofun and gold leaf paint. His eldest son, Shogoro, will exhibit Gosho dolls, as well as white balls, small balls that you'll want to hold in your palm, and three-dimensional works with gofun and gold leaf paint. His grandson, Daichi, will exhibit Japanese paintings.
Please take this opportunity to experience the elegant world of Kyoto, which has been passed down through the ages and generations, in three different ways.
