·Overview

“unspooky'' is an artist who works on the theme of “curiosity and fear towards eerie existence'' that everyone has. The characters she draws wearing white sheets are motifs created from such a theme, and are expressed not only in painting but also in various methods such as digital and animation. The theme of this exhibition is "When you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you". In this exhibition, 10 canvas works and a 60cm three-dimensional figure will appear at the venue as the "Maze Series" of characters drawn with a mixture of oil and acrylic.

・Artist statement

I can't help but feel that someone who is me, but not me, is looking at me with a shell of my past self, and is trying to drag me into the abyss.

If you don't try to peer into the abyss, you may be able to live in peace.
Trying to look into the abyss means that there is an endless abyss and its darkness that will take your heart away, and you may fall into it.
Still, I can't help but take a look.

UNSPOOKY

・ Artist profile

UNSPOOKY

Started career as a designer in 2007. After working at a design company, a publishing company, and an in-house designer for a brand, he became independent in 2018. In the same year, he started producing his own artwork.
The artwork, which conflicts with the design work, expresses the deep human world that the artist has seen from his own experiences.
“Unspooky” is a coined word that affirms the existence of “spooky” by denying it with “un” which has a paradoxical meaning.
We are active with the driving force of “curiosity” about fear and eerie existence that everyone has.
