·overview

When Kenichi Nakatani announced his three-dimensional work "Glitch Tanuki" on his SNS, it received a lot of attention, with more than 100,000 favorites on Twitter. The motif used is a Shigaraki-yaki raccoon dog figurine, which has been popular for its good luck but has not been seen recently. This is boldly reconfigured in three-dimensional expression, and digital obstacles such as noise and screen disturbances, "glitch effects," are incorporated into the technique of the work.

In this exhibition, in addition to his masterpiece "Glitch Tanuki", various three-dimensional art such as "Effect Maneki Neko" and "Brick Bear" will be introduced. In addition, the title "Kyowai Mingei" is an attempt by the artist to convey his intentions by changing the shape while distorting the void after a long period of time. . Through nostalgic motifs, this series of works floats between the past and the future, giving the impression that each viewer is doing correction work in the brain. From hand-made digital bugs, to warm three-dimensional objects, to cyberpunk futuristic sensibilities, each person has their own way of feeling things, further increasing the degree of freedom in how they enjoy art.

The disappearing "folk art" is now attracting attention again in various places. However, there may be a sense that old-fashioned folk crafts are difficult to decorate, even if they are desirable. Please enjoy up close the artist's ideas and methods of transforming folk crafts into art by fusing craft and industry, analog and digital, past and future with exquisite balance.
