"flower of life no.137" 2024

·overview

Rei Nakanishi combines traditional painting techniques with printing to create complex layered works, blending digital and analog, and graphics and painting, to create unique works.
In addition to the "flower of life" series, which Nakanishi has been painting since his debut, the exhibition will feature new paintings, including a series of reinterpretations of works by post-impressionist painters Van Gogh and Gauguin, which he first exhibited at his 2023 solo exhibition "Distance to the City, the Artist's Memories." The work, which takes Gauguin's "Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?" as its motif, is a large-scale work measuring approximately 6 meters in width that covers an entire wall of the venue. Experience Nakanishi's current state, in which he questions the viewer's innermost self through his works.

・About the solo exhibition "Season on the Surface"

I think about the life of a flower that blooms and then withers.
Where will the seasons that pour down in the afterlife lead?
A time passed when only the surface was alive.
If the metaphor of the four seasons continues to give meaning to people's lives, I want to confirm that meaning through painting.
