Galerie Tamenaga announces the holding of the “Emerging Visions” exhibition (Saturday, July 6th – Ginza, Tokyo)

– New Visions of Seven Young Japanese Artists –

Galerie Tamenaga will be holding the exhibition "Emerging Visions: The New Generation of Japanese Artists" from July 6th (Saturday) to August 18th (Sunday). The exhibition will feature approximately 40 diverse works by seven young Japanese artists who are also popular at our Paris branch.

This group exhibition, which began in 2020 with the intention of supporting young artists amid the COVID-19 pandemic, has been well-received every year under the title "Nine Artists Captivating Paris in Japanese Art." This year, the name has been changed to "Emerging Visions," and the exhibition will be held for the fifth time. In addition to oil paintings and Japanese paintings, this time the exhibition will also include three-dimensional works, and it is made up of seven truly emerging artists who have distinguished themselves in various directions. While it is considered rare to exhibit oil paintings and Japanese paintings side by side, the fifth time it is held, it feels comfortable to see the works in the same space without any sense of incongruity.

Each artist has their own unique opinions, and while looking in various directions, what they express seems to be their own emotions, thoughts, and even the artist themselves.

The materials used are as diverse as the content of the works, with some expressing the inspiration they got from famous paintings from all over the world and throughout history in oil paints, others expressing what they saw with the colors of mineral pigments rather than shapes, some boldly expanding the creativity of the environment they were born and raised in with paint, and others applying traditional lacquer techniques to artistic expression. The wide variety of art, including attempts at new expression based on faithful Japanese painting techniques, hidden feelings hidden in specific numbers on a calendar in monochrome, and cutting out familiar landscapes with a unique sensibility and leaving the unpainted parts to the viewer, made for an exhibition that was even more exciting for the viewers.

We hope you will take this opportunity to enjoy the works of these artists, who are newly gaining attention for their rich sensibilities.
