The DNP Foundation for Cultural Promotion, a public interest incorporated foundation, will hold a solo exhibition by art director and graphic designer Yuri Uenishi, "Now Printing," at the Ginza Graphic Gallery (ggg, Ginza, Tokyo) from Tuesday, September 3, 2024 to Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
[About Yuri Jonishi's "Now Printing" Exhibition]
Yuri Uenishi's posters leave an impression with their powerful visual messages, such as "World Table Tennis 2015," which beautifully captures on paper the dynamic moments of a table tennis game, with the ball moving back and forth at high speed, using minimal elements, and "Visualized Fencing. Yuki Ota Fencing Championships 2014," which beautifully and scientifically visualizes the trajectory of the sword along with the dynamic bodies of fencers.
In holding her solo exhibition at ggg, Uenishi once again faced herself and her design activities, and said, "I became a designer because I wanted to live surrounded by and involved with the things I love, and I have always wanted what I create to become something that is important to someone else." She is completely honest, and this sincerity is apparent in the designs she creates.
This exhibition will introduce Uenishi's "current location" without any pretense. On the first floor of ggg, new works of Printed Matter, large and small, will be exhibited, while an archive of her work to date will be displayed in the basement. The items will be arranged in the same way that graphics are affixed and placed in everyday life, such as posters affixed to walls and pillars around town, and books placed on bookshelves and racks. This is not an exhibition where you can just view an exhibition, but rather an exhibition where you can enjoy Uenishi's favorite things and aesthetic sense together. Uenishi, who loves to travel, will also have his "treasures" on display. Please look forward to this gradually changing, evolving exhibition by Yuri Uenishi, with the printed materials on the first floor (planned) being displayed on a weekly basis.
