Transforming slums into sustainable towns: An art exhibition by artist Shingo Nagasaka, who transforms waste dumped by developed countries into works that save developing countries, will be held at Barneys New York Ginza flagship store.

ART EXHIBITION: NAGASAKA MAGO

Barneys Japan Co., Ltd. will be exhibiting and selling art works by artist Shingo Nagasaka, who continues to create art using discarded electronic devices from developed countries, including Japan, from Wednesday, June 10, 2026 to Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

In 2017, Mr. Nagasaka visited Agbogbloshie, a slum in Ghana known as one of the world's largest "electronics graveyards," and met people who made a living by burning discarded electronics from developed countries. This encounter sparked his creative activities, transforming waste into art. He advocates "sustainable capitalism," a new form of capitalism where economy, culture, and environment develop in a cyclical manner, and continues his work to transform the slum into a sustainable town. Furthermore, the proceeds from his artwork are used to build local recycling plants and promote environmentally friendly agriculture and EV businesses, contributing to the development of Ghana and creating a better future for the region.

During the exhibition period, a lineup of Nagasaka's new works for 2026, centered around "The Moon," one of his representative works, will be on display. On Saturday, June 13th, Nagasaka will visit the Ginza flagship store to hold a talk show where he will share information about his new works and his own vision for the future.
