Shiseido will hold an exhibition related to Shiseido Karakusa, which has been designed for Shiseido products and advertising since 1920. The arabesque represents the potential of plants to expand indefinitely and has been handed down to the present as a symbol of Shiseido while changing the style by the times and designers.
And 2019 is the beginning of a new era called Ryowa. Please enjoy the charm of Shiseido Karakusa, a symbol of Shiseido design that began about 100 years ago and continues to be refined to the future.



<Details of the exhibition>
On the 2nd floor, the original drawings of Shiseido Karakusa drawn by the engraving master, Rare Hide, will be shown for the first time. You can also see the products born from Mr. Haku's detailed handicrafts along with the originals. In addition, it is an exhibition where you can experience arabesque, such as precious products with Shiseido arabesque, historical graphics, modern arabesque design products, and the “Saru” arabesque display.
In the 1st floor entrance window, the art work “GINZA KARAKUSA BIOTOPE” with the theme of “new arabesque” will be on display until Friday, January 17, 2020. Arabesque, such as monuments using mill materials that come out in the process of manufacturing boxes that contain our cosmetics, and video installations depicting the growth of arabesque using geometric algorithms that utilize environmental data such as the amount of sunlight, CO2, and the amount of human activity This is a work of a new attempt that considers “regeneration of vitality” as a symbol of sustainability. In addition, Shiseido Gallery will hold an exhibition “Surface and Custom” from the selection of artists duo Jay Chun and Kyu Takeki Maeda from October 18 (Friday) to December 22 (Friday). . We will also display works reconstructed with Shiseido heritage motifs, such as arabesque wrapping paper.

Hideki Huki
Born in 1932. Since 18 years old, he has been working as a painter at a printing plate shop, and has been producing plates (flat plates made by direct handwriting without using photographs). 62 years independent. Around 63, he was involved in Shiseido's first work, and is still the only engraver who draws illustrations, letters and logos in many packages and graphics under the direction of the creative headquarters designer.
