[Wako, Ginza] “The World of Aged Liquor and Antique Glass” will be held in the basement of the main store

Wako Co., Ltd. will be holding a vintage liquor collection exhibition, "The World of Aged Liquor and Antique Glass," supervised by whiskey importer Matsunaga Hiroto, from July 19th (Sat) to August 20th (Wed) at the Arts and Culture department on the basement floor of the Wako Main Store.

Based on the concept of "a stage for time," Wako Arts & Culture, located in the basement of the main store, offers essential richness through sophisticated products. It will celebrate its first anniversary since opening on Sunday, July 20, 2025. We will continue to strive to be a hub for Japanese culture where tradition and innovation resonate, and a place of interaction, so that you can spend special times that can only be experienced at Wako.

To commemorate the first anniversary of the opening of Wako Arts and Culture, we have prepared a wide range of events and limited edition items. We will be serving whiskey and cognac, mainly scotch that is 80 years old, and pairing them with old glasses from Lalique and Baccarat. We will also be showcasing and selling rare works that cannot be reproduced today, along with a special exhibition of antique furniture.

◇ Comment from Mr. Matsunaga

Looking back at my memories of old alcoholic beverages I've had, there was a rum from 1830. 1830 was the year that the July Revolution occurred in France and Charles X abdicated. In the world of distilled alcohol, you can put something that has been in the making for 200 years into your body.
The act of tasting a distilled spirit that has been aged for many years goes beyond the act of drinking; it is like a ritual that makes you feel time itself. When you fully enjoy the history of the spirit, and the depth and complexity brought about by the passage of time, you can touch the countless stories contained in each drop. It is a luxurious experience that makes you feel the passage of time. The liquid poured into the glass may evoke rich senses, as if it is speaking to you from the depths of time.
Rather than simply drinking alcohol, we can pay respect to the time that has passed and the feelings of the craftsmen who shared that time, and experience the feeling of being immersed in history. We believe that the world of distilled spirits allows you to experience such a worldview.

Wako Arts and Culture

The basement of the main store was reborn as "Arts and Culture" on July 20th last year. This floor is not just a place to shop, but a base for conveying the stories behind the products, such as the traditions and techniques that have been handed down for hundreds of years, the Japanese aesthetic sense that is born from how we interact with nature, and the time spent pursuing creativity, and is a place for culture and people to interact.
Since the founding of its predecessor, Hattori Watch Shop, Wako has introduced products that represent the best of artisan craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology, and has held regular art exhibitions to foster diverse perspectives and inspiration through its interactions with the people who gather there. While carrying on the spirit of respecting arts and culture that runs through Wako, we will continue to present the works of Japanese craftsmen and contemporary artists from the unique perspective of the basement.
