Kiyo Otaki’s solo exhibition “Flower” is being held at RESONANCE GALLERY.

Date: October 31st (Sat) – November 30th (Mon), 2026
Opening reception: Saturday, October 31st

RESONANCE GALLERY will be hosting a solo exhibition by Kiyo Otaki titled "Flower" from Saturday, October 31st to Monday, November 30th, 2026.

This exhibition focuses on the structure inherent in the forms of "flowers" found in nature, and attempts to reconstruct that order as sculpture through a geometric approach. Following in the footsteps of perceptual art, including Raphael Soto, the exhibition presents a collection of works that are transformed by the viewer's physical approach.

[Artist Statement]
A flower is not a single, unified form. Tiny elements such as petals and stamens gather around a central axis, repeating and overlapping. It is within this interconnectedness that we discover a single, distinct flower.
This exhibition, "Flower," focuses not on the flower itself, but on the structure through which the flower is born.
Repetition, arrangement, and aggregation. By combining geometric forms, the order found in nature is reinterpreted as sculpture.
Each individual form may be simple, but together they form a single image. And as the viewer walks and changes their perspective, that image unravels and reappears in a different form. Through this series of works that change their appearance depending on the gaze and movement of the body, we re-examine the relationship between the individual and the whole, and our very perception that recognizes it as a "flower," as sculpture.

Ootakiyo
Born in Aomori Prefecture in 1981, and raised in Akita Prefecture. Graduated from the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Kyoto University, and completed graduate studies at the Graduate School of Engineering, University of Tokyo. After studying architecture, he worked in structured finance at a financial institution.
Having experienced the financial crisis, and driven by a desire to create works that would last forever, even after his death, rather than work that could collapse in an instant due to external factors, he began creating art in the field of contemporary art. Using 3DCG and 3D printers, he creates sculptural works that question the boundaries between "existence and non-existence" and "reality and fiction," employing optical illusions and perspective. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions. He is a recipient of the Tagboat Award (Takashi Tenmyoya Prize) and the Akari Image Special Prize. His works are held in collections at Fuji Television, Haneda Innovation City, W Shanghai The Bund, and others.
