Contemporary artist LOTTA, who has captivated many fans with his monochrome worldview, will be holding a solo exhibition titled “DOWN THE ALLEYWAY” at Barneys New York Ginza flagship store!

ART EXHIBITION: LOTTA “DOWN THE ALLEYWAY”

Barneys Japan Co., Ltd. will be holding "DOWN THE ALLEYWAY," a solo exhibition by LOTTA, a contemporary artist garnering attention for his work that combines the nostalgia of old cartoons with the sensibility of modern street art, at the B1 Stage of Barneys New York Ginza Flagship Store from Wednesday, February 25th to Sunday, March 15th.

LOTTA's works, which feature expressive depictions of characters including his original ghost cat "SOCKS" against monochrome backgrounds that evoke the feeling of moonlight, stimulate the viewer's imagination and create a unique art story in their mind. In addition to the exhibition and sale of all new works created specifically for this solo exhibition, LOTTA's giclee works and plate and mug sets will also be available for sale in limited quantities.
Please take advantage of this special opportunity to experience Lotta's gentle worldview by visiting Barneys New York Ginza flagship store.

[LOTTA's comment]

"DOWN THE ALLEYWAY"
Back alleys are exciting. They're dim even during the day, and it feels like something unseen is lurking there.
Graffiti marks left on the walls, tagging, sticky stickers and flyers…
When I imagine who painted it and when, and who left it behind, I feel like I can see the history and character of a complete stranger.
This exhibition will showcase seven new works that focus on these back alleys and make extensive use of spray paint.
Recently, with the development of cleaner cities, there are fewer and fewer back alleys like this.
Of course, that's not a bad thing, but I feel like it's a little less interesting, so I hope that this time, as art, I can convey at least a little of the charm of the back alleys. – LOTTA

LOTTA

Born in 1993, LOTTA was a self-taught artist who began working full-time as an artist in Tokyo in 2017. He initially used ink painting techniques, but now mainly produces line drawings and acrylic paintings. His works, centered around SOCKS, an original ghost cat character created in 2020, embody the stories of the characters that live in LOTTA's mind, and at times even serve as self-portraits that project LOTTA himself.
