The "TOKYO MODERNISM SHOW" is an event that has been held since 2022 as part of the "Life in Art" art project, a collaboration between IDÉE and MUJI. Life in Art proposes the idea of "everyday art," which involves not only appreciating art and design as something special, but also becoming familiar with and incorporating them into daily life.
The "TOKYO MODERNISM SHOW" is an event that explores the background and philosophy behind outstanding designs created around the world, including America, Europe, Scandinavia, and Japan, primarily during the mid-century period of the 1940s to 1960s, and reconsiders their value in the context of modern life. By introducing designs that have been passed down through time and region not merely as objects of appreciation, but as living culture in today's life, the event aims to broaden the appeal of "everyday art."
For its fifth edition, this event will be held on the largest scale yet, with the addition of "Ginza Sony Park," located just a 5-minute walk from "MUJI HOTEL GINZA," to the "MUJI HOTEL GINZA" venue.
At "MUJI HOTEL GINZA," the guest rooms on the 7th and 8th floors of the hotel will be used as temporary shops, featuring 30 galleries and vintage shops. Excellent furniture, lighting, objects, and other design products from around the world will be exhibited and sold, and their appeal will be introduced along with the background and stories behind each piece.
Furthermore, "Ginza Sony Park" will be spread across four floors. It will host a market event featuring a variety of collections gathered and preserved by individuals, including furniture, books, design products, textiles, and objects. In addition to exhibitions and sales by vintage galleries and manufacturers and brands representing contemporary modern design, numerous exquisite items from private collectors will be on display.
This event brings together masterpieces of modern design from around the world, allowing you to see, touch, and experience outstanding designs along with the ideas and stories behind them. It offers an opportunity to rediscover the value of timeless designs in contemporary life.
