The Pola Museum Annex will hold an exhibition of Berlin-based Ryu Itadani's work, "Everyday Life "THERE"," from Friday, August 9th to Monday, September 23rd, 2024 (national holiday).

"Saint-Jean-de-Luz" 2024, Acrylic on Canvas, 100 x 120 x 6.5 cm

Ryu Itadani's work uses distinctive lines and colors to beautifully capture ordinary scenes from everyday life, such as cityscapes, plants, and favorite everyday items. Filled with freshness and bright sunlight, Itadani's scenes give us a fresh perspective on familiar landscapes and objects, and inspire us with an exciting feeling.

The exhibition, entitled "Everyday Life "HERE & THERE"," will be held at two venues in collaboration with furniture brand arflex*. At the Pola Museum Annex, about 30 of Itadani's works, centered on "THERE," that is, distant landscapes and bird's-eye views, will be exhibited. A space resembling an atelier will be set up within the venue, and for about 10 days from the first day of the exhibition, a public painting session will be held on arflex's iconic sofa, "MARENCO." You can see the lines and colors drawn freely and freely, and the works that are vividly born on that day and in that moment.

Come experience the world of Ryu Itadani depicted from two different perspectives at each of the venues: "THERE" at the Pola Museum Annex (Ginza) and "HERE" at the Alfrex Tokyo (Ebisu).

*The event will run at Alfrex Tokyo from Thursday, September 5th to Tuesday, September 24th.

■ Artist's comment
Everyday Life “HERE & THERE“

I ride my bike almost every day.
Moving from home to the studio.
Since you move forward under your own power, you can enjoy the scenery at your own pace.
When you catch up with something that seemed just "there," before you know it it's "here."
If you stop at traffic lights occasionally, the buildings, greenery, and faces of people walking will appear more vividly.
There are some discoveries you can make by stopping, but if you keep stopping you won't move forward.
When I arrived at the atelier by bicycle, "there" became "here."

To get there, we start from here.
Flying off to "there" to return to "here".

Going from Berlin to Tokyo, from Ginza to Ebisu.
It doesn't matter which is "here" or "there,"
I hope that I will encounter something along the way and at the destination I'm on.
