Friday, November 29, 2024 – Sunday, January 26, 2025
Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd., the operator of MUJI, will hold a special exhibition titled "New Circulation" at ATELIER MUJI GINZA Gallery 1 and 2 in MUJI Ginza (Chuo-ku, Tokyo) from Friday, November 29, 2024 to Sunday, January 26, 2025.
Ryohin Keikaku aims to realize "pleasant lifestyles and society," and is looking at the resources used in its products and stores from a new perspective, working with local communities to advance new initiatives in various regions. More than 40 years have passed since the birth of MUJI, and in order to think broadly about the future, we always feel the need to look back and reexamine our manufacturing and activities up to now. When we look to the future of a sustainable humanity that continues to move forward in 10, 50, 100 years and beyond, we believe that the idea of "circulation" has become an inevitable element throughout the world.
This time, ATELIER MUJI will not only focus on material "circulation," but also on the numerous cultures, traditions, wisdom and other contexts that have been engraved on the earth since we were born, and will focus on these circulations, regarding them as great resources. This exhibition will introduce the activities of Rashid bin Shabib and Ahmed bin Shabib from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), who are exploring the sustainability brought about by context from the perspective of lifestyle aesthetics in historical and contemporary architectural environments in a wide range of fields, including publishing, exhibitions and research projects.
The gallery will feature an exhibition titled "Wisdom rooted in the earth, a cultural cycle connecting the fruits to the future: dates," in which models and images will be displayed that show the connection between the date palm, which is widely cultivated in the Middle East, and desert oases. The exhibition will also feature back issues of "BrownBook," a media outlet they run that observes the eccentricities of cultures, as well as video projections of interviews with the pair.
