The Art Aquarium Museum GINZA (located at Ginza Mitsukoshi) will be holding a special event called "Summer Art Aquarium 2025" from Friday, June 27, 2025.
Art Aquarium Museum GINZA will celebrate its fourth summer since its opening in 2022. This summer, a new area will be introduced in collaboration with Kengo Kuma, with the theme of "Feeling the Water"! In addition, we will collaborate with various artists to provide a refreshing experience centered on goldfish, a seasonal feature of summer.
An installation space that will bring a breath of fresh air to Ginza. Look forward to the new work!
■The "Sekiterium" area has been created in collaboration with world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma!
Based on the theme of water, the source of life, the installation depicts the beautiful curves of water gushing forth and flowing, giving new imagination to Art Aquarium.
A "rock garden" is a Japanese garden that has been stripped of all water, flowers, and trees, and is made up of only rocks and stones. The "Sekitei (rock garden)" at Art Aquarium expresses stones as a mass of water, and goldfish swim gracefully within it. This is an original work by Art Aquarium that allows you to feel the flow of water.
This summer, a collaboration area will be created that combines Kengo Kuma's architectural philosophy and works that symbolize his reverence for nature with the Art Aquarium's water of life, the "Sekitairium." Come experience the wave-like design and natural beauty of the space.
Comment from Kengo Kuma
We designed an installation at the Art Aquarium Museum GINZA that combines Japan's traditional goldfish appreciation culture with modern material expression.
The combination of different materials, bamboo and acrylic, expresses delicacy and lightness. A large bamboo and acrylic spiral is placed at the center, surrounded by three smaller spirals. The spiral form gives fluidity and rhythm to the space, echoing the graceful movements of the goldfish.
The materials used are thin, flat bamboo and transparent acrylic panels covered with polarizing film, which bring out a variety of different expressions depending on the viewing angle and changes in light. Just as the goldfish shimmer in the water when exposed to light, the space itself transforms as the viewer moves.
This is an attempt to present a new perspective on the goldfish motif, which has been popular in Japan since ancient times, through the possibilities of materials and spatial movement.

■In addition to the creation of three new areas, new aquarium artworks will also be unveiled for the first time!
Three new areas will be created this summer, including a collaboration area with Kengo Kuma! In addition, art created in collaboration with various other artists will be on display throughout the building.
Now in its fourth year, the Art Aquarium Museum GINZA has truly evolved, breathing new life into Ginza.
Stay tuned for the full reveal on Friday, June 27th!
[What is Art Aquarium?]
An immersive entertainment art piece that uses light, scent and sound to create an aquarium with goldfish swimming in it. The "Art Aquarium" is a unique world where Japanese tradition and cutting-edge art are fused together, and the culture of goldfish appreciation that has continued since the Edo period is expressed in the form of a work of art in the modern era.
The beautiful form of the aquarium artwork, the spatial presentation, and the goldfish, each with their own unique beauty, create a fantastical space.
It is an entertainment-type art museum IP that has attracted a total of 12.3 million visitors since 2007 (as of February 2025).
The Art Aquarium Museum GINZA, which opened at Ginza Mitsukoshi in May 2022, is a permanent facility where you can enjoy the changing seasons throughout the year.
