Grand opening on May 1st (Friday). The legendary steakhouse “Smith Wollensky” makes its first appearance in Japan.

A long-established New York restaurant beloved by gourmets worldwide is finally opening its doors across three floors in Ginza.

Smith & Wollensky, a long-established steakhouse from New York with a history of approximately 50 years, will finally open its first Japanese location in Ginza today, May 1st, 2026 (Friday). The ultimate experience, praised by the New York Times as "The Steakhouse to End All Arguments*1", will finally begin in Japan.

The Ginza store, which will serve as Japan's flagship store, is a modern and opulent three-story establishment befitting its location where tradition and sophistication intersect. The expansive interior, complete with a dynamic main dining area, bar lounge, and private rooms, recreates the "intellectual social hub" of New York where creators and executives meet. In addition, live jazz performances will be held four times a week on the 12th floor, creating a sophisticated atmosphere befitting a Ginza night.

Our finest steaks, selected according to our own rigorous standards, are the epitome of our restaurant's cuisine, enhanced by precise cooking techniques using dedicated broilers and a special beef fat extracted from our own aged meat, which brings out the meat's inherently noble aroma. Enjoy the perfect pairing to your heart's content with a glass of wine recommended by our sommelier from our cellar, which holds over 2,000 bottles.

Furthermore, as a challenge symbolizing the grand opening, "S&W x Ontake Single Malt Whisky," a collaboration with one of Japan's leading craft distilleries, will also be released. This initiative, which is planned to be rolled out to Smith & Wollensky stores worldwide starting in Japan, is a fusion of a new "New York dynamism" that will be broadcast from Ginza to the world. Please come and experience the supreme hospitality offered by this historic brand.

S&W x Ontake Single Malt Whisky

Product name: SMITH & WOLLENSKY SINGLE MALT
Alc frequency: 43%
Ingredients: Malt Volume: 700ml
Availability start: May 1, 2026 (Friday)
Manufactured by: Nishi Shuzo Co., Ltd. ( https://www.nishi-shuzo.co.jp/ )

The spirit, distilled in 2019, the first year of operation at the Ontake Distillery, was quietly aged in first-fill Oloroso Solera sherry butts.
The color is an elegant amber gold. A subtle reddish tint from the sherry cask adds depth to its rich character.
The aroma is rich and vibrant. A concentrated, sweet, and fruity scent unfolds, reminiscent of dried apricots, caramelized apples, and prunes stewed in red wine.
The mouthfeel is smooth and silky. The rich flavor of dried fruit is gently layered with vanilla from the barrel, creating a full-bodied and harmonious taste. The alcohol is smoothly integrated, and the pleasantly lingering, soft finish further enhances the deep umami of our proud dry-aged beef.
