"Taiwanese Special Effects Puppet Show World Exhibition – Thunderbolt Fantasy: Sword Travels in the East 10th Anniversary × Pili Puppet Show -" will be held on the 8th floor of Yurakucho Marui!
This exhibition commemorates the 10th anniversary of the "Thunderbolt Fantasy Project" and showcases Taiwan's world-renowned special effects puppet show, "Budaixi."

This exhibition is a special event held to commemorate the 10th anniversary of "Thunderbolt Fantasy: Sword Travels in the East," a popular Japanese-Taiwanese co-production, and "Pili Puppetry," a traditional Taiwanese performing art that Taiwan proudly presents to the world. The venue will introduce the history and charm of Pili Puppetry, which represents Taiwan's visual culture, and will also display puppets, costumes, weapons, and other items that bring the world of "Thunderbolt Fantasy: Sword Travels in the East" to life, allowing visitors to experience the charm of special effects puppetry that fuses tradition and innovation.
In addition, special edition puppets of Lin Xueya and Shang Bu Huan, created to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Thunderbolt Fantasy: Sword Travels in the East series, will be unveiled for the first time in the world. This will be a rare opportunity to see the exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail in their creation.
Furthermore, a variety of special events will be held, including a puppetry performance show by Pili International Multimedia's puppeteers, a photo session, a talk show on themes such as behind-the-scenes stories of production and Taiwanese film culture, and a screening of a glove puppetry film. The event is designed to allow both long-time fans and those experiencing glove puppetry for the first time to fully enjoy its profound charm.
This special exhibition showcases the artistry of traditional glove puppetry, a cultural tradition passed down through generations, and the new entertainment possibilities pioneered by "Thunderbolt Fantasy: Sword Travels in the East."

■What is "Thunderbolt Fantasy: Sword Travels in the East"?
"Thunderbolt Fantasy: Sword Travels in the East" is a joint Japanese-Taiwanese wuxia fantasy puppet show project that fuses Taiwan's representative traditional puppet show, "Budaixi," with Japan's film and storytelling culture. It was created through a collaboration between Pili International Multimedia Co., Ltd. (Pili), a highly popular and accomplished Budaixi production company in Taiwan, and Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus), known for works such as "Puella Magi Madoka Magica" and "PSYCHO-PASS."
Since its launch in 2016, the series has continued to captivate fans both in Japan and abroad with its beautiful puppetry, thrilling action, and compelling storyline. Gen Urobuchi is in charge of the script and overall supervision, and Pili International Multimedia, based in Taiwan, handles the puppetry and cinematography, evolving the traditional art of glove puppetry into a modern visual work.
Furthermore, Good Smile Company participated as a puppet design advisor, and the music was handled by Hiroyuki Sawano, KOHTA YAMAMOTO, and Takashi Wada. In addition, Takanori Nishikawa performed the theme song, bringing to life a lineup of some of Japan's leading creators.
"Thunderbolt Fantasy: Sword Travels in the East" is a highly acclaimed and innovative video production that fuses the techniques and expressive power of Taiwan's traditional puppetry with Japan's content creation capabilities, garnering support from many across national and cultural boundaries. The grand story woven by the beautiful puppets and the dynamic direction made possible only through video are major attractions unique to this project.
