– A beautiful collaboration between artists with a delicate gaze on the Eastern identity seen from an overseas perspective and the everyday –
Artglorieux GALLERY OF TOKYO, an art gallery operated by Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store on the 5th floor of GINZA SIX, will be hosting "Shangri-La – The Aesthetics of the East," a competition of beauty by artists who view Eastern identity from an international perspective and have a sensitive eye for the everyday.
Date: March 12th (Thursday) – March 18th (Wednesday), 2026
Business hours: 10:30-20:30 (closing at 18:00 on the last day)
This exhibition focuses on "Contemporary Japanese painting and three-dimensional expression seen from an international perspective," highlighting a unique sensibility and beauty. These works are imbued with an Eastern spirituality rooted in Japan's climate and history, as well as a delicate gaze hidden in the everyday. At times tranquil, at other times powerful, they will present a new form of beauty to people around the world.
"Shangri-La – The Aesthetics of the East" will introduce works by artists who embody this Japanese sensibility. Shangri-La refers to an ideal world removed from the mundane world, and is also a symbol of beauty that people have longed for since ancient times. Like this Shangri-La, the works in this exhibition gently distance the viewer from reality, leaving a quiet lingering impression deep in their hearts.
The landscape created by the gathering of works with an Eastern identity is not merely a presentation of beauty. Rather, it will provide an opportunity for us living in the modern age to reexamine the very essence of beauty. Please come and experience for yourself the uniquely Japanese sensibility that has remained intact even as it interacts with the world.
