ATELIER MUJI Special Exhibition “From the World’s Lives – Vernacular MUJI Items Asia Edition”

June 27th (Friday) – August 31st (Sunday)

Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd., the operator of MUJI, will be holding a special exhibition, "From Life Around the World – Vernacular MUJI Items Asia," at ATELIER MUJI GINZA Gallery 1 and 2 in MUJI Ginza (Chuo-ku, Tokyo) from Friday, June 27th to Sunday, August 31st.

MUJI operates over 1,300 stores in 29 countries and regions around the world, including Japan, and provides products and services that are tailored to local lifestyles. MUJI values manufacturing that "leaves to the creativity of the user" and allows products to be used in a variety of ways depending on the user's ingenuity. MUJI also engages in dialogue with people in each country and region to create products that utilize local materials, uses, and food culture. MUJI believes that these efforts are necessary to be "useful" to the lives of the people living in each region and to society, while respecting the climate, culture, and lifestyle of each region.

When you visit MUJI stores around the world, among the products familiar in Japan, you will find products that are unique to that country or region. This special exhibition tells the various stories that have been nurtured by MUJI's encounters with the "vernacular" cultures of each region, and considers the diversity of local cultures and lifestyles through MUJI products that are made and used in each region.

What is ATELIER MUJI?
ATELIER MUJI was named by graphic designer and MUJI art director Ikko Tanaka, and is run under the philosophy that "This is a workshop where we return to the origins of life and find hints for moving forward into the future." This forward-looking activity is held at a cultural crossroads that Ryohin Keikaku sees as a place where exhibitions and events are held on a variety of themes, including art and design.
