A month-long experience of Japanese incense culture, “2026,” will be held from April 18th (Incense Day) in Ginza, Kyoto, and Kamakura, featuring incense tours and workshops.

The theme for 2026 is "Scents that connect to tomorrow -Where Scents Meet Tomorrow-"

The "Kaori-Haku" event, where you can experience Japan's incense culture, will be held for approximately one month, from April 18th (Saturday), "Incense Day," to May 17th (Sunday), 2026. This year, the third edition of the event will include a new area, Kamakura, bringing the total number of locations to three: Ginza, Kyoto, and Kamakura.

In addition to the organizers Kyukyodo, Shoyeido, and Nippon Kodo, MUJI Ginza and MUJI Kyoto BAL will be participating again this year. Furthermore, Kitou Tenkundo will be participating for the first time in the Kamakura area.
The theme for 2026 is "Scents that connect to tomorrow -Where Scents Meet Tomorrow-". As AI and digital technology evolve and the forms of our lives and communication continue to change, there is renewed interest in "scent" as an experience that engages all five senses.
"Kaori-Haku" is a cultural event where you can experience Japan's long-standing fragrance culture through a stamp rally visiting fragrance shops, workshops such as incense ceremony experiences and scented sachet making, special exhibitions at each store, and the sale of limited-edition incense only available at Kaori-Haku.
At the venue, you can experience the relaxing time and sense of balance that fragrance brings through four experiences: "exploring," "listening," "creating," and "enjoying" scents. In addition, under this theme, three long-established incense companies, Kyukyodo, Shoyeido, and Nippon Kodo, have collaborated to create the TRINEX (Trinex) <Future Three Fragrances>, an incense series exclusive to Fragrance Expo 2026. Three fragrances that connect to the future, with the individuality of each of the three companies resonating together, will be released on April 18th.

■ "Listening" to scents
Each store will offer programs that allow you to experience Japan's traditional fragrance culture, such as "Kodo" (incense ceremony), one of the three major traditional Japanese arts, "Monko" (listening to the fragrance of precious incense woods), and "Kimshukai" (sake tasting), where you try to identify the scent of Japanese sake.
