Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore (GINZA SIX 6F, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) will host "ART SESSION by Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore," an art event where diverse artists' expressions come together and resonate with each other, from August 21st (Fri) to August 23rd (Sun), 2026, in its in-store art space, GINZA ATRIUM. Now in its fifth year, this event will feature approximately 50 works by around 30 popular artists. To ensure that everyone, from those new to art to collectors, can enjoy the event from their own perspective, a diverse range of works in terms of expression, size, and price range will be gathered across genres.

The main visual is an artwork by Shotaro Sanada.
The main visuals for this project, "Process Landscape.407" and "Process Landscape.408," were created by Shotaro Sanada. Sanada is an artist who creates "new landscapes" using his unique painting technique that expresses gravity and time with vertical brushstrokes. Rather than realistically depicting actual scenery, he transforms the impressions and physical sensations he receives while walking around the city into colors, lines, and brushstrokes, expressing the atmosphere of the city and the flow of time as abstract landscapes.
Author's commentary on the work
《Process Landscape.407》 This work was created based on impressions received from buildings, shop windows, roads, and light reflections around Ginza. It expresses the orderly streetscape of Ginza and the urban space with many glass and metal elements, and the canvas is layered with different types of brushstrokes, such as vertical brushstrokes, wave-like lines, and circular movements. Rather than depicting specific buildings or places as they are, the scenery seen while walking around the city is translated into colors, shapes, and bodily movements. By using relatively subdued colors, the quiet and sophisticated side of Ginza is expressed.
《Process Landscape.408》 This work was created based on the abundant visual information found in the city, such as the pedestrian traffic around Ginza, the lighting of shops, advertisements, cars, and buildings. In addition to blue and white, orange and yellow are used extensively to express the brightness and vibrancy of Ginza. The composition, in which multiple color planes and brushstrokes overlap, illustrates the characteristics of a city where different buildings, lights, and people's movements are seen simultaneously. Colors and paints are concentrated in the upper part of the canvas, while vertical brushstrokes are used extensively in the lower part, expressing the amount of information in the city and the feeling of people viewing the landscape while moving.
Shotarou Sanada
Painter, born in 2000. Graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts, completed a Master's program at the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, University of Tokyo, and is currently enrolled in the Master's program in Painting at the Royal Academy of Art (RCA). Representative Director of SANADA WORKS Co., Ltd. Visiting Researcher at the Data Science and AI Innovation Research Promotion Center, Shiga University, and Special Lecturer at Chuo University.
His abstract paintings, themed around "new landscapes" that depict gravity and time with vertical brushstrokes, have attracted attention from an early stage, and he has won numerous awards, including Art Olympia 2022 and Best Debutant of the Year 2025. He has more than 50 permanent works around the world, including the permanent mural "Twelve Pillars of a Series" at JR Nagano Station and the large permanent mural "Fusion of Landscapes in Ueno" at JR Ueno Station.

Regarding the sale of artwork
The exhibited works will be available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis at the venue.
