Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd. (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo / President: Satoshi Shimizu), which operates MUJI, will hold the special exhibition "A Journey Through Medicinal Plants Today" at ATELIER MUJI GINZA Gallery 1 & 2 inside "MUJI Ginza" (Chuo-ku, Tokyo) from August 28 (Fri) to November 23 (Mon/Holiday), 2026.

The theme of this exhibition, medicinal herbs, are used in everyday life, such as mint, which is used in poultices, and ginger, which is popular as a warming ingredient, used in soups and medicinal dishes. Their origins are ancient, with many plants that may have been used as medicine being discovered in the remains of Jomon period dwellings dating back tens of thousands of years. Furthermore, because the plants that can be harvested differ from region to region, a variety of uses can be seen that are adapted to the local climate and environment.
This exhibition introduces the history, culture, and wisdom of "medicinal herbs," plants found in our immediate environment that our ancestors incorporated into their lives through observation and experience. This perspective of re-examining and incorporating existing wisdom and ingenuity into our daily lives is a philosophy that resonates with MUJI's approach to product development. Rather than simply introducing new things, we aim to create a space that inspires the search for a richer life by focusing on what is already around us.
At the venue, you can see actual medicinal herbs from all 47 prefectures, interviews from a trip with medicinal herb researcher Rie Nitta to producers and those who pass on traditional practices throughout Japan, and exhibits that encourage you to reconsider the things around you through modern health practices and handicrafts.
