He came to Japan as a medical researcher in 1987. The knit work using the German-made "opal yarn" that was produced while working as a German instructor became popular. Immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake, sending yarn to evacuation centers in various parts of Tohoku led to the establishment of "Umemura Martina Kesennuma FS Atelier (KFS)" in March 2012. Imports and sells yarn and manufactures and sells knit products.
