・ About the exhibition

Whitestone Gallery Ginza Shinkan will hold a solo exhibition "In Between-Resonance" by Kaoru Nakamura, an artist and hearing-impaired person. Kaoru Nakamura has been exploring the points of contact and limitations in sound and communication through his work.

Kaoru Nakamura started with the early production of Japanese paintings, changed his senses due to the cochlear implant worn on his right ear in 2012, studied in the United States for two years from 2018, and introduced expressions using various materials and new technologies. Experienced differently physically and culturally.

This exhibition focuses on Nakamura's important theme of "sound and communication," and re-expresses the mental landscape constructed with sounds and languages that he has felt as a hearing-impaired person with paintings, which is the origin of the artist. It will be an exhibition that seeks points of contact that can sympathize with each other while living vigorously even in a modern society where the future is uncertain.

Comment from writer Kaoru Nakamura
In this exhibition, I will return to the painting that was my starting point and express the mental landscape constructed with the sounds and languages that I have felt since childhood as a hearing-impaired person. The audience who touched this expression felt that they could live strongly in the social space even if they were uncertain, and the audience's dialogue with the landscape stimulated their imagination and separated them by boundaries. I hope to find a point of contact with others that I can relate to.

・ About Yoshiaki Nakamura

Nakamura completed the doctoral program in Japanese painting at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2015, and the graduate school at the Maryland Institute College of Art in the United States in 2020. Nakamura has explored the points of contact and limitations in hearing and visual sounds and communication that exist among people, and has unknowingly hinted at the boundaries that separate oneself from others from early Japanese paintings. This world reflects the appearance of a quiet world as a hearing-impaired person. Also, by wearing a cochlear implant on the right ear from December 2012, there is a big change in the perception of voice, vision, and time, which has a strong influence on the color and spatial sense of the current work, as well as the sense of language and communication.
