Art direction for Shiseido's corporate culture magazine "Hanatsubaki," which has continued for over 40 years with a sharp sensitivity to the times and avant-garde design. The logo of the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo and the package of Shiseido Parlor have a strong vitality that attracts people's eyes. Numerous experimental and playful expressions at the exhibition… Masayoshi Nakajo's designs always give us fresh surprises and the fun of solving mysteries.
Nakajo, who questioned the perfection of beauty, questioned himself, and continued to challenge new forms of expression by destroying them, remained an active designer throughout his life at the age of 88.
Masayoshi Nakajo's exhibition at Creation Gallery G8 will be the first two-person exhibition with Kazunari Hattori in 2009, "Nakajo Hattori It will be the first time in 14 years since 8-chome Suicide.
In this exhibition, in addition to works exhibited in past exhibitions, works carefully selected from posters, logos, editorials, packages, etc. that Nakajo worked on. In addition, we will also introduce hand-drawn printed manuscripts, Nakajo quotes and sentences.
Masayoshi Nakajo
Born in Tokyo in 1933. 1956 Graduated from the Department of Design, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. In the same year, he joined the advertising department of Shiseido. Joined Deska Co., Ltd. in 1959. Became freelance in 1960 and established Nakajo Design Office Co., Ltd. in 1961. Art direction and design for Shiseido's corporate culture magazine "Hanatsubaki" and The Ginza/Tactics Design. CI planning for Matsuya Ginza, Wacoal Spiral, Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, and Hosomi Museum. Logotype and package design for Shiseido Parlor. Active mainly in graphic design such as the logo and signage plan for the Tokyo Ginza Shiseido Building. TDC Member Gold Award, ADC Member Highest Award, Yusaku Kamekura Award, Mainichi Design Award, Japan Advertisement Yamana Award, and many other awards. Received the Medal with Purple Ribbon and the Order of the Rising Sun. Sunset on October 26, 2021.
