[The challenge of a long-established tatami store in Fukushima with 280 years of history] Opening a street-front store in Ginza on November 1st, spreading “tatami culture” to the world

~Kubogi Tatami Tokyo is a tatami showroom, tatami accessory sales and mini tatami making experience~

Kuboki Tatami, a tatami specialty manufacturer that preserves tatami for future generations and promotes it to the world, opened a new store, "Kuboki Tatami Tokyo," in Ginza, Tokyo on November 1, 2024. Although it is a small store with a sales area of 13.2 m2, it will be an important base for the tatami industry in promoting tatami culture both domestically and internationally.

■ Background and purpose of opening

With the aim of spreading tatami culture both domestically and internationally, Kuboki Tatami opened its flagship store on the street in Tokyo's Ginza district as a tatami showroom, a place to buy tatami accessories, and a place where people can experience workshops.
We have been promoting tatami culture both domestically and internationally through events and the internet, but from these experiences we realized the importance of " negotiating business face-to-face while showing the actual product ," so we decided to open a store in Tokyo, a city that attracts many tourists.
We also hope that from here we can contribute to the recovery of not only our company but also the tatami industry, which is facing a difficult situation due to a decline in demand.
